Not exactly PC gaming in the conventional sense, but still... a console is just a more specialized PC anyway, all things considered. so anyway, moving on.
This is the thread to discuss current and upcoming console games, etc. the one game i've been dying to play is FFXII, but i'll have to wait 'til may. then i'll have to buy a HD TV, score an orig english copy off e-bay, and there you go. the other game i've really been waiting for is FFXIII (i'm a bit of a FF nut, hehehe), and perhaps MGS4.
Oh, and this. okay seriously? watch that movie. White Knight Story is teh rule XDDD |

What??? We don't have dedicated console gamers??? And we call ourselves THE hgc...
I really liked MGS3, even if it was technically about Big Boss and not his clone Solid Snake, making the title a bit misleading.
CONTRA FTW!!!! None of the crappy later versions, too. I'm talking about up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, nostalgia here...
I missed the time when we called an 30 extra lives infinite. Haha. And have you noticed the the music from one of the stages is the beat for Parokya ni Edgar's Bagsakan? Way cool... |

ahh, konami's ultimate code. the ultimate code, it should be said. you just cannot beat that kind of stuff.
although that does kinda remind me of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2's unlock everything code for the PSX: XXXSTUDLUSTXTCXTC. not quite as classic, but still catchy, no? |

heh, i'm not kinda fan of consoles anymore so i guess back then, i crave for such things...Wii? PS3? i think i got no more bucks to afford those kind of stuff...
but since i am a console gamer back then, i hope almost everybody in the HGC saw what i had brought...a Game Gear! ~_~. And yes, when i am kinda bored and tired of reading stuff i'll just find a fresh set of AAs (6! they needed 6 back then!) and play. (yup, up to this date, my GG was fully-operational ~_~)
just wait when i plan to buy a GameBoy...the Original One! (that looks like a brick and not much of a hand-held...) x_x |

Game Gear = teh rule XD it died way too soon. I like Sonic the Hedgehog, et al., hehe.
so many awesome games for the PS3 coming out, though. White Knight Story! FFXIII! I haven't played a good console RPG in a loooooong time but i think that's about to change. ![Very Happy](images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif) |

But at least most of the moves in Tekken kind of seem plausible...unlike sonic boom energy blasts and kiai fireballs. Gimme some good-old-fashioned Valetudo or Sistema anyday.
(Name the Tekken peeps who use these styles, get an online cookie!)
Let's just conveniently ignore Devil, Ogre, Yoshimitsu and the Jack cyborgs. I love contradicting myself. Deconstructionist theory for the win! |

Wait, are we actually claiming that Tekken moves are plausible????
King's a wrestler, but there's no way a wrestler can do that throw combo thing my big bro keeps on catching me in. :/
And don't get me started on how Yoshimitsu jumps on his lightsaber.
Case in point: You can't use plausibility to argue that Tekken is superior to Street Fighter. Use some other reason please. |

Case in point, check my post, I already put up the counter examples to the argument. |

There. The only people who don't consider this a valid reason are the people who have yet to see Tekken 6 irl. |

But it still doesn't argue the gameplay, I admit tekken looks sweet. But if the previous tekkens were to be accounted for, it's hard to counter a person when he takes offensive and most juggles performed are actually hard to get out of. Actually, tekken's core gameplay didn't change much for each iteration, Tekken 4 tried to change that but was met with poor feedback from fans.
Considering Namco's other fighting game, Soul Calibur, combo's are actually easy to break, you could actually parry and psych-out your enemy which could lead to devastating combos that could also easily be parried or psyched-out of. I've yet to see Soul Calibur IV but I'd like to think of it as Chess-In-Action.
Street Fighter, depending on the version, each has it's own merits, fighting is fluid and you earn your combos. The later versions actually reward you for fighting defensively (Street Fighter III with its parry system). Also, each of them actually had something different in gameplay. SF2 put fighting games on the arcade cabinets and into tournaments, SF2T introduced us with hyper fast gameplay, SSF2:The New Challengers balanced out most of the characters and added new ones, SSF2T gave us the speed of SF2T with the introduction of super moves. The Alpha Series introduced us to the Three-level super gauge and -ISMs. I would like to see what Street Fighter IV and its "Revenge Gauge" has to offer, and would the jump from 2d to 2.5d have any effect on fan reaction? |

It is a valid reason alright but not the only valid reason. Overall gameplay experience is a better determinant if a game is superior to one another or not. |

Hahaha... no. Learn to counter. Just because you can't use it doesn't mean it's not in the game. As for when you get caught in a juggle... well don't get yourself caught in a juggle. How is this any different from the uber-cheesy low WK -> F.A.B. Zangief tick that's damn near inescapable in SF? |

You can't use plausibility to argue that Tekken is superior to SF. that you gave a counter-example to your own point is irrelevant, as you took the stance that Tekken is better because it's more plausible.
I am not taking a stance. I happen to like Tekken. But I like SF, too. If you'll be convincing me to choose Tekken oer SF, though, use examples that are not out there.
And I did check your post.
B_b's point is not contested. |

hehehehehe well for storylines tekken has cool and cute storylines unlike SF where they almost have the same goals
Tekken girls look better in terms of body, face and you know what
For SF it's quite a no brainer when you play just know the moves while
in Tekken you can't predict what you opponent might do next due to the variation of combos and moves |

i already played tekken 6 (there are some in arcades) and...
it really is awesome...
most the the characters are still there (hell heihachi's still there lol) and some new ones too..
added some new moves for the characters, i noticed this when playing paul, he does a different move when i try to do a quick phoenix punch, sometimes he jumps (for a long time, argh), then punches the opponent.
graphics are sweet too, dont know much about the story though...lol
for MGS fans..
all ive seen is the MGS4 trailer (guns of the patroits) i think everybody know this already but anyway, snake is old (real old) and there are a hell of a lot of metal gears wreaking havoc. what's snake to do? kick their asses of course. a lot of the old characters are there (raiden, ocelot, otacon..blahblah) and its looking like its going to be the last one of the series (there's a scene where snake puts a gun in his mouth and tries to pull the trigger)
for FFXII (FF12):
ive played this with a friend of mine, and as for my opinion, it has its good and bad points. gameplay is much faster coz of the real time-ness of it, but it kinda kills the whole "the screen breaks and then music". it actually made me fell like playing ragnarok lol. as for its character upgrade system, its pretty good. you can't just get the ultimate weapon and bashbashbash, and you can spend a hell of a lot of time getting 100% on it |

actually squaresoft plans to make all FF series in the near future in real time mode which actually reeks. Its good in a sense that you don't need to wait during a turn but you will also see the difference when your facing a horde of monsters. In my opinion, it should have stayed in a turn time basis. |

the hell? really? its like killing the whole "FF-ness" of it.... does that mean we say gudbye to "dadadadandandan, dandandan!" (FF victory sound) |

As a middling level Threadomancer, I cast:
Animate Thread!!
Megaman 9 will be coming too the Wii through WiiWare and guess what? The graphics are all 8-bit! I could feel the nostalgia coming back to me, sneaking away from my pre-imposed naptime just to watch some MM5 being played. ![Laughing](images/smiles/icon_lol.gif) |
