I think we can have the liberty of creating a custom dead pantheon with our old characters as its members. Comments?

I would personally enjoy that. In particular, I'd de-lich Vrahn and focus on him being the consort of a goddes. He was finally ascended to godhood by his mistres, but was killed a day later at the Kaldathra. Poor Vrahn-ie.

Kruzko, I'd have a lot more fun with. Twisted Evil

I just realized: If there is a god of Death in our campaign, wouldn't....he... get very powerful after KalDathra?

I think he had to be one of the first to be killed.

That god would also get killed anyway.

Which brings up another concern: If you are master of Death, how can it claim you?

Don't worry, though. I think I've found a fix for this. Enter the newest additions to the Obituary:

Urethear'Ulhar, Azuredeath
Lawful Neutral
Portfolio:?
Domains, Death, ?

Vrahn, the Truly Dead
Lawful Evil
Portfolio: Fanaticism, Murder
Domains: Death, Evil

Of the deities to fall at the Kal Dathra, perhaps Vrahn could be considered as the most unfortunate. Belonging to a royal family* of blueblood (with the blood of Blue Dragons) sorcerers, he was ridiculed for the his lack of innate magic. His family's name has since faded into history, and yet his story endures.

His childhood was a mess, constantly bullied by his brothers. They practiced their budding sorcerous powers with him, and in time he grew spiteful at being the target of yet another Magic Missile prank. He prayed to the various gods that walked Creation, praying for magical ability to come surging through him as it did his siblings. None came to him.

Or so he thought. On the day he became a man, he was visited by a beautiful woman whilst he rested on his bed. She had flawless light skin, and an unusual blue lock of hair. Above all, the lady was completely naked, with just a hint of sapphire pubes covering her.

He was unable to resist.

Entwined in bed a short time later, basking in their afterglow, the mysterious lady whispered in his ear, "You're devotion is admirable. Few pray at the crack of each and every Sinag to most every god, for a boon."

It was only then that Vrahn began to wonder. Who was this treasure? And how did she know of his silent vigils?

The woman crawled on top of him, her azure hair flowing down onto his face as she stared. "This goddess does not grant boons to the faithful; she instead rewards those who have proven their worth..."

She took out a magnificent box, made of bronze and encrusted with sapphires. "Pursue what you want above all else. Your family has wronged you as they have forgotten me. Carve out their hearts, each of them, and place it in this case. Do this, and I will grant you the power you seek."

With that, Vrahn's one-time lover goddess disappeared.

What followed was a vicious display of fanaticism. Not only did he kill his brothers, but his twin sister, the only one to really love him, was mercilessly stabbed whilst he was in her caring embrace. Not only did he slaughter his father, the king, but he also dug out his dead mother's remains, burned her decomposing heart, and sprinkled the dust into his treasure box.

When at last he slew his last brother, who fled to a faraway land to hide from Vrahn's dagger, he knelt and prayed for the azure goddess to come.

Three days he prayed, and yet no goddess appeared. "Perhaps I've forgotten someone, a bastard brother, perhaps, or a secret niece..."

Then it hit him. In his blind devotion, he held the crimson-coated dagger that he had just used. He then proceeded to gut out his own heart, letting his blood spill all over. And in his dying gasps, his numbing hands placed the heart amongst that of his family.

----------

Vrahn opened his eyes. His blood was already dried up on the floor, his heart was in the bejeweled box, and yet no goddess came. He didn't breathe, he didn't blink. He was dead, and yet he moved. How was this so?

He didn't care. So he was dead and yet he walked. Perhaps his mistress willed him to move on, and logically, it meant that his work is still unfinished.

Many countless years pass as he hunted the remnants of his family. His family's kingdom gone and forgotten, his body decayed except for faltering bones, he wandered Creation covered only in an old blue cloak. During this time the Godfall War came, and those who saw him and were told his story knew yet another tale of how a god twists her worshippers.

Vrahn, for his part, began to detest gods. None but one answered his pleas when he was young, so these immortals deserve no quarter. So while he still massacred the descendants of his brothers whenever he found them, he was the fabled Blue-robed Undead who joined the Liberators.

Setbacks happened often. Even with the potent godslayer weapons, the Death of a god did not come easy.

Death.

Vrahn was destined to meet her goddess again, albeit at vastly different circumstances. As the liberators began to slay more and more gods, the Liberators attracted the attention of the Death Goddess, a Blue Dragon named Urethear'Ulhar. It only took Vrahn one moment to realize who the Dragon was. In an ultimate act of betrayal (or was it loyalty?), he slew the bearer of their Godslayer weapon, enabling Urethear'Ulhar to simply kill the rest of the Liberator regiment.

When all but the dragon and the servant remained, Vrahn extracted the jewelled chest from his cloak, knelt before the gargantuan creature, and said, "This faithful seeks to prove his worth..."

Urethear'Ulhar stared at the box, and remembered something she has neglected. Once again she took Vrahn as her lover, and while skeleton and scale intertwined, she broke a piece of her soul, and gave Vrahn the power that she promised.

Vrahn was now a god.

But the piece also included a shard of Urethear'Ulhar's memories; the Dragon is also the same Matriarch that was her family's progenitor. Through the years, the family forgot to pay the necessary adulation that she deserved. Since then, she hated her human descendants, and vowed to punish them for their folly.

As the bones of what used to be a man, but now a god, basked in the afterglow, he slowly climbed to the neck of the Dragon. there he lied down, and said, "Your faithful servant failed you, mistress. I do not deserve this power."

The dragon-goddess's huge head arched arched closer to his much smaller lover, "And how so?" She asked.

Empty eyes stared lovingly at the Dragon's own large azure orbs, "To be deemed worthy, I need to fill that phylactery with the hearts of my family. It's not complete. But do not despair, love. I will... rectify my mistake."

And with that, Vrahn slew** his goddess.

But the connection was still there. Still entwined in their lovedance, his soul still attached to hers, Vrahn became the new god of Death.

KalDathra occured the next day. unable to yet master his divinity, the fledgling god was unable to save himself. now he is truly dead.

---------

*It is possible that this was a Mandrakori Clan. more than one family has died out, after all.
**How did Vrahn kill Urethear'Ulhar? Two theories are prominent. Either he used the godslayer weapon (they say it was a dagger), picking it up after betraying the Liberators, or in his newfound divinity, he was suddenly capable of deicide. Other speculations exist, each as unlikely as these two.

Hmm... interesting story right there... I must have missed a lot... a whole lot. The price of productivity is the stagnation of DnD. Sad
