I recently set-up a new webpage for the org: Squidoo UP Geeks. I plan to maintain it myself for the sustainable future; think of it as my alumni contribution to the org ('coz I'm too cheap for financial donations, Laughing )

As I'm no longer a member, however; I will need your feedback regarding the site: What needs to be changed? What new events shall I put in? If you want to put in new articles, post them up here. Add an appropriate image if possible.

All suggestions and contributions to the Squidoo Lens will go here. For general comments about the site, post in the site itself or in the Announcements Forum.

Oh, and it would be nice if you advertise the web page on your blogs. The main tag that I use is "pinoy geeks", although "up geeks" and "hobbygamers" are also used often. And don't worry; it'll complement, rather than compete with, our forums. Wink

Well, for the record, and ultimately a revelation, I resent that HGC is advertised as an org of/for geeks.

Here's how I see HGC:

UP HGC is an organization of extraordinary people engaging in unconventional hobbies and uncommon interests. We are a hodge-podge of people with similar interests in the field of gaming. UP HGC is founded with Magic: the Gathering as a foreground, and later on, Dungeons and Dragons is included in its repertoire. At the moment, UP HGC is open to any hobby gamer, including trading card games, RPG's, computer games and console games.

This is not to deny that there are geeks in HGC, but HGC is not an org of geeks alone.

I have a question. *waves hand*

Why just UP Geeks, though? I mean, there are a LOT more Geek in the whole of the Philippines..

Princessa makes a good point . In connection with the thread on another forum, I think we need to broaden our scope not just within UP but to all Filipino geeks as a whole.

Hello, all!

I would like to renew my request for people to PM me stuff that you'd want to see in our Squidoo. Whether it's a comedic essay, a report on how we survived the end of last sem, or even if it's judt a group of pictures, then let me know! I'll upload them to keep the website fresh. Very Happy

Thanks a bunch!

@mnightsilver: Well, it all depends on how we choose to define what a geek is. I decided that; instead of shying away from the term, we should uplift it from its negative connotations. A magic player, RPG player is a geek. For we defined geekiness even then as a desire to pursue a hobby not out of popularity, but out of passion. Or something like that.

Basically, our definition of a geek is not a snot-filled, unbathing, basement dwelling male. We broadened it to encompass each member of HGC.

I think mnightsilver's main concern here is UPHGC isn't intended to be an org of geeks, it's an org of hobbygamers.

Hobbygamers maybe classified as geeks, which it is, but not all geeks are hobbygamers. We're a subgroup of geeks, in a way.

@erwin: I think you meant subset. In a subgroup, you need a binary operation, and your "smaller" set needs to follow the three group axioms: Associativity, Existence of Identity, and existence of inverse.

Cool

@the geek appelation: Simply put, more people type in "geek" in google than hobbygamers. Geek is chosen simply because it's the more popular word. You don't have to really worry, as we're described as hobbygamers, and not as much as geeks, on the page itself.

In a nutshell, it's a Search Engine Optimization (aka mechanical) choice.

BUMP! The articles on that site are almost a year old! And I think I no longer represent the org, so even if I have time to write a new article write now, it won't accurately describe the group anymore.

Submissions are welcome in the form of:
*Org pictures
*description of recent org activity
*funny (and worksafe) articles that pertain to the org

Come on, guys! XD
