What do you mean it's not DotA?
game made by team Icefrog, the game is basically DotA without the Warcraft storyline, they are in their own universe.
haven't played it yet, it's on Closed Beta, though you could get an account by becoming a fan at Facebook. Just search it.
Gameplay is almost the same, and almost all heroes are the same, just different appearance. Though there are some differences to some heores, and new ones as well.
Example: Swiftblade (aka HoN's Yurnero) doesn't have Healing Ward. Instead it has (i forgot the name) that blocks melee attacks against him, sort of selective evasion. All other skills are the same.
Game stats are just reworded, though they may be new effects in it.
Here is the forums, check out the heroes and items, it's like pallet-swap DotA or something _________________ There is happiness for those who accept their fate. There is glory for those who defy their fate

Ooh, I would not be too hopeful about this. I get the feeling Blizzard's gonna lawsuit this project into oblivion _________________ And I'm still, still longing. Still cold... so cold. |

Hmm...that would depend on the actual status of DoTA and quite possibly the skill set and the coding involved... _________________ All hail the Bongolian Ultraprawn! |

Well, it's not the 1st time someone copied DotA. There's League of Legends (guinsoo is one of its creators) and Demigod.
The main prob is probably the uncanny likeness of the heroes and items itself, though it is said that it had permission from Blizzard, but I'm not sure if it is true.
BTW, I was wrong about Icefrog being it, apparently Icefrog is still the head developer of DotA. I think they made a comment about HoN already, and they're sort of 'meh' about it.
Check youtube for the vids, my fave move is (their) Treant Protector's Overgrowth. When cast, TP makes a crack on the earth, jumps below, and then branches starts to come out of it, entangling everyone in area of effect.
Oh, i forgot to mention all entangled units get flowers on their heads _________________ There is happiness for those who accept their fate. There is glory for those who defy their fate

I will point out that DoTA is a game concept that run back to Starcraft mods if I remember correctly. Aeon of Strife. _________________ All hail the Bongolian Ultraprawn! |

It's not that they're copying dota, it's that, stylistically, they're copying Warcraft (which in turn borrows heavily from LotR, but I digress). _________________ And I'm still, still longing. Still cold... so cold. |

Borrowing more from Warhammer, I'd say. :p _________________ Words are the only bullets in truth's bandolier. And poets are the snipers.

I don't know much of Warhammer but what made you say that? _________________ solbergb on sorcerers:

The green orcs. I think it was GW who popularized the green orc. Iirc, tolkien's orcs were grey. Though WoW ended up being more noble savages then bloodthirsty lunatics. The shoulder armor designs also seem reminiscent of space marines and others, but that might be more coincidental.
The entire muscular fantasy feels more GW than JRRT. _________________ Words are the only bullets in truth's bandolier. And poets are the snipers.
