On the Footsteps of a goddess
A NWoD - Changeling: the Lost Chronicle
When: Open Gaming Meet
August 29, 2009
Where: SM Marikina (Cyberzone)
Time: 5pm-closing (8-9pm-ish)

Specifics:
*This is my attempt at running a continuing RPG game during the OGM. I chose NWoD over D&D (which is the system I use more often) because it allows players to come in and out of the game easier as the months roll in.
*Players are encouraged to create their own characters; to accomplish this, I am willing to run through character creation from 10am-5pm.
-You are a changeling: You were human, once: But Otherworldy creatures have taken you from your previous life. While you eventually escaped, you never were quite the same afterwards.
-The age and background of your changeling is largely up to you, but for simplicity's sake, your character must be somehow associated with UP Diliman. (I'll help with this, don't worry)
-Characters are encouraged to be of the same gender as their player.
-I will also bring 2 or 3 pregens for those who want to get right into the action.
*I will be using the Diliman: By Night template. Other than the changelings that are the center to this storyline, there are other supernatural entities that have carved a place for themselves within Diliman. Other than passing mention of these entities, however, they will not make an appearance during Saturday's game.

For UP HGC apps:
*Get into the game, and bring your sig sheet, and I will be able to grant you a "boon," something that you might find useful during your application process. Wink

Changelings in Diliman: By Night

The fae continue to make their presence felt all over the Philippines. Men are still lost as they follow the beautiful diwata in the corner of their eye. Giants smoke their cigars on top of trees barely larger than them, letting the smoke pierce the senses and assault people’s dreams. Or at least, that’s how it is in the barrio. In places where skyscrapers have replaced the imposing balete trees, men have mostly forgotten the fae.

But the fae have not forgotten men.

Metro Manila is one such place where the forgotten fae steal away mortals with alacrity. Particularly during the Martial Law a few decades back, when men stole men and did not return them, the Fae have taken their fair share. So common were these disappearances, that leaving fetches became out of fashion for the Others. Why go through the effort of leaving fetches, when people so readily blamed the government for these disappearances?

Many changelings were taken during these troubled times. Perhaps they are lucky; without a fetch living their life for them, their families readily accepted them when they returned. They may be drastically different from before they were taken, but many attribute this to the tortures induced upon them by their captors.

Still, the presence of changelings are unsettling, to say nothing of the company that they keep. Many have been welcomed back, only to slowly ostracize themselves for various reasons. And it is this ultimate irony that drives changeling existence; they have returned, but they never feel at home again.

On the Footsteps of a Goddess
Prelude: Of Shadows and Basements

Cast:
*Mang Jose (courtless Darkling Antiquarian), a taong grasa that roams the outskirts of the campus
*Jon Habito (a Wizened Oracle of the Court of Sorrow), a law student filled with skepticism over supernaturals, never mind the fact that he’s a supernatural himself
*Manong Magno (a Wizened Oracle of the court of Desire), the Eternal Student: He will graduate on time, even if it takes him decades
*Professor Cinco de Mayo (an Ogre Gristlegrinder of the Court of Wrath), a terror Physical Education instructor rumored to eat students
*Rhon-Rhon Mancao (a Fairest of Flowering of the Court of Fear), a person that is so extremely friendly, he strikes fear on the hearts of his fellow students.

While not the most sociable fellow himself, Dios Buhawi of the Habagat likes to organize soirees during his term. And like all things related to the courts, it is not just a simple matter of attending or not: Formality dictates that the changelings visit their motley-mates who decline to attend. That way, any concerns that they have can be brought upon the court’s attention, even in their absence. Of course, said formality is crap; the court doesn’t listen to issues unless the changeling involved personally brings it up in court.

Now, changelings that are from UP are technically under one motley; a decision made by old changelings that believed would naturally like each other. As such, the visits two Lost who are in Diliman; one who lives in a balete tree in the UP Lagoon, and another who roams the outskirts of the Math Building. As the lagoon was closer to the place in which the motley met each other, they decided to isit that place first.

Now, the lagoon area was known for two things; the actual lagoon that steadily shrinks into nothing but a puddle of moss, and the couples that have been known to take advantage of its relative darkness to indulge their carnal desires. The place did not disappoint. Around fifty couples took advantage of the shroud of darkness, and they are in turn taken advantage of by Ernie, the darkling that they are searching for.

Ernie’s mien was that of a prim and proper gentleman. He wore an expensive tuxedo, adjusts his monocle on occasion, and drinks the glamour taken from the couples desires like a cup of tea. He welcomed his motley-mates warmly, and as any kind, offered them some of his delights; glamour from the couples in the area.

With the exception of Jon, who did not enjoy tea and disbelieved in harvesting emotions, the motley readily took part in Ernie’s pride and joy. Professor Cinco and Rhon-Rhon even added their personal touches, as they alternately scared and stoked the ire of at least two couples. All in all, the visit to Ernie was a friendly one, and after expressing a mild dislike for the guards constantly shooing of his couples, he retired back to his balete tree.

For good measure, the motley then decided to rob their kind friend Ernie. After all, he did favor a particularly mundane looking trash can for used condoms, so they indulged their curiosities to see if anything was hidden there. After some gooey searching, they found a battered old Queen of Spades. Rhon-Rhon was the quickest to get it for himself. With Professor Cinco’s prodding (which involved a stomp that felt like an earthquake), the motley then decided to go to the Math Building.

But getting to the Math Building proved to be harder than expected. The shadows seemed to be protecting the elusive structure, and no amount of physical effort could seem to get them closer to the place. Indeed, they suspect that some dire withcraft warded off the place. Thus they decided to use some magic themselves in the form of travelling through the Hedge. All doors lead to it, so they went to the nearby Science Building. The locks of the building’s doors proved to be no match to Manong Magno’s skill (and Mang Jose helped, too), and they slowly crept into the Hedge.

The Hedge is close to the world of the Others, and the group was naturally jumpy during their stay there. They could hear the faint galloping of hooves, and fearing their freedom, they decided to follow the shadow of an old man that was seen in what would have been the Science library. It turned out to be a wise choice; before they knew it, they were at the fabled Math Building basement.

The Wizened Dr. Delgado lived in the basement of the Math Building, and he filled it with books on artifice and blackboards upon blackboards filled with mathematical proofs. His mien was that of a professor kicked out some years back, for his proofs detached itself from normal mathematics more and more. Branded insane, the little old man has laired in the non-existent basement since then.

Mang Jose and Rhon-Rhon readily took part in Dr. Delgado’s home-made cerveza, unwittingly binding themselves to perform a task for the wizened. Manong Magno, for his part, found the many books in the shelves to his liking, and knowingly entered a pact to be the doctor’s apprentice. And with Jon’s persistence, the doctor then told them of the issue he wants resolved; a fraternity of sorcerous math majors who turned the building into their personal ivory tower. The wards which protected the math building at night were from those sorcerers, and they held no respect for professors both mundane and supernatural.

Rhon-Rhon seized the opportunity, and asked for the fulfillment of his boon by ridding the area of these magi. Once the agreement was sealed, they went up to confront the cabal. They only found one mage; a long-haired, guitar toting man of Hispanic descent who called himself the Mariachi. Neophytes to the Delta Epsilon fraternity backed him up, but they were not mages themselves. They proved to be formidable, but even when outnumbered, five fey were stronger than one mage and his goons. The mariachi was forced to retreat, but not before shooting Mang Jose once.

As the motley chased after the Mariachi, they heard the galloping sound once again. This time, though, the sound was steadily getting stronger. As they primed themselves for what could be another fight, a wounded changeling galloped out of the mists and fell down in front of them. Deducing that he was not hostile, Professor Cinco hoisted him up. He announced himself as Ka Enteng, member of the Tikbalang Kapatiran and emissary of the Freehold of Laguna. He had a message for Dios Buhawi, and the motley agreed to help him deliver it at the next day’s soiree.

The deep night gave way to morning, and Ka Enteng was escorted to Dios Buhawi’s event. His message was simple; one of the True Fae have been banished to the mortal realm, and all tracks indicate that she’s somewhere in Manila. The flighty Daragang Makiling has arrived.
