Story so far
In the Mountains of Pain
During the escape from the City-State of Goldgrass the party decided to traverse the Mountains of Pain rather than attempt to cross through the border. While traversing through these mountains, the group encountered a structure, in the middle of the mountain range, guarded by several constructs. In the ensuing battle, Shyrna held the front, fending off as many of the constructs as she could possibly handle. Bravery, or foolishness, and the blessings of her ancestors were not enough to keep her from stopping them, as she was eventually slain in battle. After defeating the constructs, the group later found out that the structure the constructs were guarding was a storehouse, which, contained parts and instructions for the creation of a warforged. Rather than leave her dead, the group decided to resurrect her as a warforged.
Trying to be a Gnoll Again
For now, Shyrna is searching for a way to revert back to her original form, setting aside her duties as a member of the Shattered Fangs.
Kobold's Revenge
Parts and instructions for the creation of a warforged do not just serendipitously appear upon the demise of an adventuring individual. No. They must certainly belong to somebody -along with the mechanized sentinels who were guarding said repository of materials- and they may demand compensation -of the extremely violent kind- for the trespass committed upon their property. In this case, the Kobolds who own said storehouse, in the future, may wish to have a word with the group about the unlawful procurement of these materials, along with other objects of a valuable nature. |

Default gnolls, iirc, are biologically matriarchal like the hyenas they resemble. What does that mean? The female gnolls are bigger and more brutish/tough than their male counterparts.
At least, those are default gnomes for you. I'd dare say that PMP is our BT gnoll expert on such affairs already, so whether or not thei so pumped full of testosterone that the females are that big is up to him.

I sort of see the sexual dimorphism among gnolls, both physically and mentally, to be somewhat minimal, much like hyenas.
On the question of which gender is tougher/stronger/more bruttish? Females or males? It would depend on which species of hyena gnolls are based on. Most depictions I have seen of them tend to show them as spotted hyenas, which is the type of hyena BJ seems to be thinking about. The three other species of hyena (two if you don't think the aardwolf counts) have their males at a slightly larger size, as compared to females, and are either patriarchal or solitary.
I see BT gnolls to be a compromise among the hyena species, keeping the minimal sexual dimorphism found among hyenas, but not being an exclusively matriarchal race (Their social structure and whatever concepts of gender roles they might have would vary from tribe to tribe). So female gnolls may have enough testosterone in their system to make them as big, tough and aggressive as males, but the chances of having females/males that are bigger and tougher than the average male/female are not that far off. (It could depend on lineage or whatever would pass as genetics in BT)
Maybe one day I will have a sort of write up for gnolls and present it to the fluff team. |
