The sem is done, finally, so I have the time to work up Pharagos storyline stuff again. I'm going to be dropping the pre-history stuff down already. I wanted to reveal this stuff to you guys earlier, but since nobody was reading all of those books from Telthin Manor that you guys stole/recovered, I may as well drop it now, and to hell with the campaign seed I was originally planning. I haven't worked out all of the major elements of Pharagos' primordial history, but here's one important bit that I planned to use heavily.
Excerpt from the Serpent Lords of Ancient Pharagos:
In ancient days before the rise of the Elven Dominions, Pharagos was a far different and hostile realm. Where now we see verdant plains and grasslands, enormous swamps and jungles once stood. Selentine archaeologists estimate that tropical climes may once have reached all the way to the isles of Lunarion and the Norgaard Plains (Now the Daemonscar). These conditions encouraged different forms of life to rise to dominance.
Ancient tales speak of a time when Pharagos was ruled by a race of intelligent reptilian lords, a time that the elves are loath to speak of (marginal note: Typical Elven arrogance. Unfortunate that the Mandrakori turned south rather than east during their first invasion, else they would have exterminated the elves first). Most of the information gathered in this tome has been gathered from a few yuan-ti purebloods and halfbloods who deigned to speak concerning their ancient forebears. The yuan-ti speak of a race they refer to as the "Shi-ruuk", a yuan-ti word that translates to "overlord".
The yuan-ti claim that the Shi-ruuk were masters of ancient magics, and of disciplines of cold science and breeding unknown to modern mages and alchemists. Such was their skill in the manipulation of the stuff of life that the yuan-ti claim that the Shi-ruuk created entire species to serve their empire: the yuan-ti, the lizard-folk, and the kobolds are the most frequently cited examples of their works.
The lizard-folk were created to be warriors, sword-fodder bred for the defense of the overlords. The kobolds were a mockery of the race of dragons (the chief rival of the Shi-ruuk for dominion), and were used as slave labor. The yuan-ti were to be advisors, administrators, agents and trusted servants of the Serpent Lords, leaving the Shi-ruuk free to plot, scheme, and test the boundaries of their advanced knowledge.
The yuan-ti refuse to speak of the fall of the Shi-ruuk dominion. Here, the author has been forced to turn towards other sources for information. A surprising source happened to be the lords of House Axom, the mind-flayers who now wield sizable authority in Arcania City. Archivist Phaedrios Axom of Arcania was surprisingly helpful in this regard, supplying the author with the rest of the story (hand written note in the margin: A forthright mindflayer? Suspicious. How much of this story is accurate and how much is Axom propaganda?).
The end came for the Shi-ruuk with the coming of the Infinite Empire, the Mind-flayer Imperium that once spanned the entire multiverse. Though Phaedrios admits that the Illithid suffered a few defeats at the beginning, the 'flayer says that in the end, powerful magic, mastery of psionics, and their legions of githyanki battle-thralls proved more than sufficient to eliminate the Shi-ruuk for the glory of the Infinite Empire.

Hand written addendum: An interesting tale the Illithid spins. but it does not add up. The elven histories and geological surveys both confirm massive devastation in the prehistoric periods of Pharagos. Legends also speak of how the Song of Creation and Destruction were once in the possession of the mind-flayers. These doomsday weapons should have easily destroyed these Shi-ruuk, but oral history and our scant physical evidence agrees: The Shi-ruuk fought back, and fought back hard. How did they counter the Songs of Creation and Destruction?

I hope there is no and there never was a Sarruk in Pharagos. |
