I was checking around the WPN site and found this. Apparently, Wizards is going to start/ has already started a Rewards program for D&D just like in Magic; Basically, you get free stuff from playing in sanctioned events. The only difference between the Magic one and the D&D one is that you have to run specific adventures to be downloaded from the Wizards site. And IIRC this one is under the RPGA not the DCI.
So, have you guys already known about this one and tried it out? I read somewhere that the new program will start around June or July, so for those interested better sign up. |

I've known that way before. That's the reason why I played RPGA for sometime.
DCI points are bascially 'money' you could use to get rewards from any WotC franchise (that uses DCI system), even if you earned such points from another hobbygame.
For example, I could compete in Magic tournaments and convert my points to Magic cards, D&D miniatures, D&D Player/DM Awards (applies to RPGA games), Avalon Hill board games (not sure about this one), or any other possible franchise that WotC controls. |

not exactly transfer. rather points are accumulated when doing certaiin events (joining/winning M:tG tourneys, playing RPGA games, winning/joining D&D skirmish, etc.). Points can thus be converted to rewards. Cards, miniatures, Player/DM awards are the only rewards i could think of now. |

Hmm... I like it. Converting D&D sessions to M:tG rewards sounds great. When I checked around the event sanctioning for D&D, they basically give me a download for an adventure. So, basically, they give us points for participating in that adventure? And what's that Rewards Points I keep reading in the site? |

The downloadable module has to be run by an approved PRGA DM, iirc. It's basically the Judge counterpart in Magic.
RPGA is kind of like what we do BT. We have ongoing characters. Characters which are allowed to be played and to pass onto adventures. It's sort MMORPG in pen and paper. The DM, every after session, has to update the character sheets on the site. The players just have to confirm their player.
RPGA Player Rewards are basically bonus effects that you could add in your character. It could be an item, bonus EXP, or wahtever. It also allows you some priviledges, iirc, but unsure of that. |

One of the main obstacles here is the RPGA-sanctioned DM. Before you can even be considered, you'd have to have played as a PC under another RPGA game, so that makes things a bit harder.
erwin, are you aware about where the RPGA guys play these days? |

I still remember jeff had a friend before who made a whole module and submitted it to wizards. Wizards then forwarded him a letter plus an RPGA ring stating that he was an official RPGA DM. I just wanted to share. |

Since Doc Hans hasn't been around, the RPGA guys I've gamed with just plays casual games these days. They lurk in the new hobbystop, iirc. The DM is the shop owner, who is said to be a good and generous DM.

You have to play RPGA games, iirc, though I'm not sure these days. Earn some status with your character, then take the DM exam. It's sort of the same way how Judges work in Magic: the Gathering. |

Yup, I think that's him. He also make great terrain features. He actually print terrain features, then cut them with a scalpel (he's a surgeon). Then he paste those to fitting cardboards. I.E. Doors, trees, etc. |

@Erwin: I think princessa means the hobbystop DM, Manix. |

Oh him. Seen that too, I heard he initial played for skirmish, then just collected minis for DMing, iirc. |

I checked out the results entry for D&D. Apparently, you can sanction and report 'homebrew' games without an official RPGA DM. Just like Judges in Magic, Wizards apparently doesn't require official DMs for people to start playing. Also, DCI numbers work as well here, so I don't think you need to get RPGA cards. So, if you guys want to get Rewards for playing in BT games, just let me know. The only details necessary are the player's DCI number, XP and GP gained.
One more thing, I think Wizards will start giving out Prize Support Kits like for Magic starting in July. I already signed up for a Delve Kit, hopefully that's the same thing. |

Cool. Keep us updated for that, it may just the thing we could benefit from the BT campaign, aside from its initial purpose. |

Wow, Q. You really know your stuff. Thanks for the info.
For the record, though; I have a really old DCI# (ie, 7 digits). Can you find out how to shift that to the modern system? Or if I would be allowed to get a new one under the same name? |

I also have the same problem. DCI issued me a transparent plastic card which includes my DCI number. Unfortunately it kinda wore off, is there a way to request it to be retrieve? |

Old DCI numbers usually just add a few numbers to be converted to the new system (i.e. 1257XXX --> 501257XXX.) You can safely use your old number without problems.

That one might be a problem. Can you PM me your name, address and the remaining visible numbers of the card? I can try requesting a database search from the WPN. Worst case scenario, I'll give you a new number instead. |

If Doc Hans can't be around, I'm available to sanction RPGA scenarios. Manix has his homebrew thing going on, too, at hobbystop. I just need WotC to send me a fresh set of Registration Kits to hand out to players.
The rewards has been around for quite a while. 3.0 and 3.5, at least. We've been getting rare Miniatures as DMs and some player cards to use for RPGA events/characters. They gather points every game quarter and when you accumulate enough for certain rewards, then they send it over.
Those of you who have the 7-digit numbers, the precode is 510.... log in to the rpga page to check your status...
If you're logging on to it for the very first time use your DCI number for your username and Washington's Zip Code as the password.
once you're in, be sure to change the details... and be sure to sign-up to the rewards program, too.
as for your characters. RPGA only tracks "Instance" and each player can only have 1000 instances. 1 instance = 1 character. When you put in your character details, be sure to remember what instance number they are and include that on your chracter sheet. This way, when that character participates in a sanctioned game, the rewards will reflect on the right character, etc.
With RPGa halting automatic update tracking for characters, because the D&D Insider character builder's now being used... the rewards and scenarios played do not automatically reflect on your RPGA characters in their database... BUT this doesn't mean that the DMs can slack off and not report the sanctioned game. As players, it'll be your responsibility now to bug the DM for your adventure certificate for every game completed. (they're supposed to hand you one) It tracks your characters achievements (exp, gold, items earned/lost, death, etc.) keep it with you. you can also upload that certificate detail onto your RPGA account.
let's see... my brain's fried at the moment and can't think straight...
i'll tell you more details as I recall them. |

Why, yes. I'm free Mondays
Gimme a time and I will bring the game.
Currently running Living Forgotten Realms campaign of D&D 4.0
Those interested may bring in level 1 characters to start with (refer to RPGA character creation guide)
I shall start you all on the Weekend in the Realms module that we ran the last two weeks. It's a good title to introduce everyone in (unlike SCALEGLOOM HALL *gasp*) not too easy, not too hard. I gave BJ a copy of that module + map + tokens. (though i'm more comfortable with gridboards and whiteboard markers, hehe) |

Afternoons? Around one-ish. I'll have to double check the time but I'm sure we'll at least have five players or so. |

Sounds like a plan... I'll run a My Realms Sanctioned event.
Does everyone have an existing RPGA or DCI number? |
