|
So...yeah. I've been wondering for the longest time: what system would be best for adapting Armored Core to PnP?
Right now I'm thinking either D&D 4E (since someone already started a mecha conversion for it) or Shadowrun (because from my first reads of the rulebook, the fluff's really compatible with AC).
Comments? Suggestions? Violent reactions? _________________ I don't go for record time, my friend. I go for record PAIN!

Turn based tactical wise, DnD definitely would be a good way to work it, especially if you want your combats hard and fast. I haven't read that mecha conversion yet, thanks for the link. You can convert special moves and whatnot as powers, with chassis rated by character level giving access to better gear slots aka class powers. Okay, I see it more like Front Mission, since I haven't played the newest iterations of AC.
Shadowrun...I wish I could read a copy of that system. Infamous game, but I've never read it.
Other systems to consider:
-GURPS? Never played it, heard a lot about it.
-BESM: I dunno about the TriStat version, but I've read the d20 3.5 version, and it's got a ridiculously detailed mecha creation system that's a fun read. _________________ Words are the only bullets in truth's bandolier. And poets are the snipers.

actually... wouldn't Mekton Zeta be the perfect candidate for this? Especially if you're just going to concentrate on mech combat? _________________

Nope, haven't played that either. So far I haven't heard anyone really bashing it though, which should be a good thing.

The TriStat version's a lot less clunky than the d20 version. I haven't seen how TriStat BESM handles mecha, so I'll hafta see that first and compare between that and d20 Mecha.

I tried to like Mekton, but I ran into the same problem that has me disliking Exalted: Too much number-crunching. Sure, it's great for making custom mechs and all that, but I like my rulesets as simple as possible (Yes, I've checked out Risus and love it. LOL.). _________________ I don't go for record time, my friend. I go for record PAIN!

Actually, it would probably be better if the D20 system was used. GURPS IIRC has an inherent upper limit to its design... _________________ I shut my eyes in order to see. |

How did you guys adapt the 4E classes to SRW? I'm really interested in seeing how an SRW PnP works. _________________ I don't go for record time, my friend. I go for record PAIN!

Aside from massive cosmetic changes, we didn't change anything at all. The result was passable, but there are some things the system doesn't support all that well, if at all. Such as flying mecha or combining mecha.
We didn't assign any specific type of mecha to any given race or class. We just thought up mecha concepts, and then looked for good race/class combinations to stat up our concepts.
I think I had the worst trouble retheming my character's attack powers, though. UC Gundam weaponry isn't known for anything outside of explosives or beams. As a wizard, I deal a variety of damage types (not just fire or whatever). _________________ Knowledge I was probably better off not knowing.
