A reaction to Ohgma's problematization of the Holy Avenger/Godstone Shard relationship in bullet points! XD
-One year after the godfall way, a meteor shower occurs. It is noted by whatever human survivors are left and records are kept of the location etc. It is further hypothesized to be the mourning of the universe for the death of the gods of Bonethrall's world.
-Of the numerous rocks, only twelve land on Earth with significant size as far as shape is concerned. They lie in wait for years and years.
-Some years later (to give time for the races to rebuild), a group of merchants find the stones. They present it to the ruler of the largest city state they visit as a gift.
-These stones, the king orders to be forged to weaponry. He keeps half and the other half, he gives out to friendly nations.
-Some years after the advent of the godstones, a cleric is granted one of the weapons as a gift in the service of his liege. He discovers that the metal infused in the steel react to his godstone shard, amplifying its effects.
-This discover prompts war between the formerly friendly city-states ending in disaster as each is destroyed and the weapons lost (and by lost, I really mean in the hands of powerful bad guys or waiting for enterprising adventurer's to stumble on them--the nature of magical weapons...) *eyeroll* |

Flavorful. I like.

All right. Please work on it, as the idea looks totally sound at the moment. Everyone else, jump in and comment. |

@Xtian:
It might not be they themselves who sought out the stone, but rather paid adventurers to retrieve it for them. Being the "heads" of economy at that time, it is no wonder that the exploits' achievements were credited to them, the Twelve.
@others:
So that make seven nations, with the seventh having the six. These might be many years after the Godfall, but methinks having only seven powerful kingdoms are way too much. I think that it's rather that the exploration was made in some part of the world where this legend has been tradition. Oh, there are also various versions, the stones having many names and meanings, throughout the Bonethrall world, but it is only within that "continent of the seven states" that the pursuit of the real ones was pushed through. |
