Lucretia (also called Lucky) is the daughter of a moderately well-to-do tiefling couple. From a young age, Lucky has been instilled with a strong sense of kindness and good will. As such, this kindly little tiefling girl has always had many good friends she could depend on.
Unfortunately, friends you make in wizardry school are not always all that dependable.
She would realize this when she showed her seatmates her answers during an exam (at their urging, naturally, adding "The teacher said you could! You just didn't hear her...). Their professor was sympathetic; indeed, she was quite fond of Lucky. However, rules were rules, and so the four young wizards were expelled from the academy.
At this point Lucky was in a panic. Her parents, who worked so hard to pay for tuition fees, would be crushed once they learned the news. She was brought to tears at this realization, but her friends seemed unfazed. Apparently, they'd heard of a nearby wizarding school that was nowhere near as rigorous as their previous school. So the four set out for this new school, a place called Honest Joe's Arcane Academy.
Here they met a cloaked figure seated behind a desk; this was Honest Joe, it turned out. Lucky's friends dropped a bag of gold each on the wooden desk, and Joe had his assistants see to each of the three students. When it came to Lucky, however... well, after emptying all her pockets and going through her rucksack, she managed to produce 18 silver pieces, 3 copper pieces, and a small bag of salt.
Joe raised one of his eyebrows at the tiefling's pathetic attempt at payment. He was prepared to send Lucky packing right then and there. But, one of her former schoolmates, a tiefling boy slightly older than her, took Joe aside and whispered in his ear. With a smile Joe turned back towards Lucky, and beckoned her to come closer.
"Love, you've to understand something. Your friends here? Well, wizardry didn't quite pan out, so's they've decided to become warlocks... you follow? Right, then, they're all making infernal pacts, but forging pacts with the really strong infernals is a long and tedious process and, let's face it, that's way out of your budget at the moment. However, what I can do for you is set you up with the discount option. I'll take that money you produced as payment, yes? In return, I'll teach you a ritual to summon a lesser demon. It won't be as powerful as your friends' pacts, and it'll also be riskier, but it'll be something, understand?"
"But but... my parents are expecting to turn me into a wizard..."
"Well, what do your parents do?"
"O-oh... they're just merchants, sir..."
"Then they won't know the difference, will they?" said Joe through his toothless grin.
"Ah, no... I s-suppose not..." murmured Lucky, who was trying to stifle her tears. It was such a dishonest thing to do, but what choice did she have?
"So," said Joe, smiling again. "Do we have a deal?"

Lucky set out for the forest with ritual components in hand. She would find a nice, quiet spot to summon this lesser demon (shiver) and be done with it. Such an inelegant thing, but it had to be done. She found such a spot, carefully drew the symbols on the ground, and set down the necessary components as appropriate. Finally, she took out her "cheat sheet" and started to read the text.
It was getting dark, however, and she couldn't see that well. Also... what was this letter again? Darn, should have studied Elven more closely. Lucky muttered each syllable slowly, making more than a few mistakes along the way. That must be why nothing happened, she thought. Sighing, hopeless, and broke, she reached for the items she had left on the ground.
Suddenly, a crack like thunder sounded in the air. Smoke rose up from out of nowhere in the middle of the circle, and there stood a tall, dashing figure clad in barkskin armor. His green eyes examined the young tiefling, who could barely speak.
"A-a-are you the d-demon I was meant to s-summon?"
The man looked curiously at Lucky, who continued to speak (or at least, attempt to do so).
"D-demon... for my, ahh, p-pact?"
He looked up, then, not saying a word, as if in thought. Then he spoke with a voice that seemed to echo throughout the forest.
"Yes, this is right. I am, hmm," said the man with a slight pause, "Skraad, Skraad of the, uhh... the Forlorn Marshes. Yes, I am a great War-prince among the denizens of hell. You shall find no demon greater than I!"
"Ah, but... but I was s-supposed to summon a lesser demon...?"
"Foolish mortal!" shouted the voice. "Here I stand before you, one of hell's most feared generals, and you deny a pact with me? Why, I should have the legions under my command consume your soul with their hundred fangs and ten thousand sharp talons!"
"N-no! Please don't!" exclaimed Lucky. "Please, I'll do anything! J-just, I'm just scared, but I'll do anything! So, please..."
"Enough," said the man. "Enough. You are a young one, so you may not know how to deal with a demon such as I. I forgive you. But an infernal pact is no minor thing. Are you certain you want to go through with this? Command the fires of hell and all its... hellish horrors?"
"Y-yes, sir... yes. I've no choice..."
"Very well, child. Take my hand..."
And with that, Lucky forged her very own Fey Pact.

Hey, not everyone can be born an aristocrat, and not all members of a race are the same, otherwise, we'd end up with a Planet of Hats. Lordly arrogance tends to be the racial trait, but not everyone has it, just like not all elves are graceful, or not all dwarves are gruff and implacable.
So Lucretia isn't a normal tiefling. I'd be interested in seeing the social consequences of this in RP.

Diluted blood? A tiefling and a human mating will always produce a full tiefling. I don't believe it "dilutes", being of Astral origin.
And I detest having a fey pose as a demon to look powerful.

Actually, the fey isn't posing as a demon to look powerful, per se. I envisioned this particular NPC as being a fairly powerful trickster sort; he's doing this because it amuses him. A clueless tiefling who's mistaken him for a demon? How could he resist seeing where this goes?

Cliche. You have a naive, innocent girl who's into a fey pact to have infernal powers. Trickster poser? Show me the fey potential. Revan told me via PM you had it crazier, and you mellowed it a bit.
Don't. Fey madden you. Fey are not a joke. They promise one thing and do another... or better yet, give you exactly what you asked for, but not what you wanted.
There's a reason why fey are up there with the Faustian Infernals and the Lovecraftian Star-lords. And I don't see it in this oh-so-cutesified backstory.
Don't get me wrong. It has potential. It's just that I don't want to see you clustered into a joke character.
