Okay, I want to keep going with the Sinaghari idea, but here's one thing that I want the rest of the group to decide on if we go along with this:
How fscked up is the sun?
Option 1: The Sun is Dead.
This is the original idea as written in the Redeemer/Sinaghari writeup. Sinaghari died during the Godfall war, and with his death, the sun itself died with him. The children of Sinaghari would later find the Heart of Fire, and discover that blood-sacrifice could temporarily rekindle the sun, providing a fitful sort of half-light to the rest of the world, at least for a time.
Option 2: Rage of the Fallen Sun.
This scenario is not quite as drastic or dramatic as option 1. In this version, Sinaghari dies, and without him, nothing can regulate the elemental fire of the sun itself. The sun goes mad, and storms of elemental flame sweep Creation as the gods die, further adding to the devastation post-Kal Dathra. When the children of Sinaghari find the Heart of Fire, they discover that blood sacrifice on the stone can calm the sunstorms, at least for a time. |

I go for Option 1, as you all already know.
The sun is dead -> The Sinagthari needs ritual blood sacrifice to sustain it -> Light of Day is irregular -> no accurate measure of time is used today -> "Liwanag sa Dilim" is a good campaign setting name (lol) -> sh*t gets solved.
Of course, this brings up other problems, but it solves our current one. No need to change.
EDIT: Or maybe just have "liwanag" as a campaign setting name lolz |

Okay, but as it stands, the Sinaghari stand as something of the badass enemy in this setting, as it is an article of faith that they must go around and hunt down unbelievers, and then take these oblates back to the Heart of Fire for sacrifice. In other words, constant slave raiding and slave trading, as the Sinaghari seek redeem the world, one soul at a time.
Checks out? If so, then I'll need to read up on early Meso-America and pre-Hispanic Philippines for more info for culture and war. |

@Revan: Checks out. Although from how the setting is taking shape, everything and everyone is the badass villain in our campaign setting. |

I'd go for Option 1 as well. |

The more I think about this, the more interesting this becomes.
I mean, the light of day is inconstant. meaning days are not an accurate measure of time. So do the natives of our world measure time at all? Or are they ignorant of it?
there probably is an alternat to recording time. the night stars, maybe? |

How about making our world nearer/closer to the sun/whatever source of light compared to Earth? |

Why, the Drow can naturally sense the rotation of the planet! Or something.
They have devices that measure time based on, well, that. Very sensitive and complex, but it's maaaagic so it's cool. |

So, you're saying we should just say it's maaagic? I'm sorry, but in my POV, that just won't do. FR has a time sched, (tendays, weeks, 24hour days, months), and so does Eberron. Now, if we say time is not accurately measured that's fine by me. But if we say the inhabitants of godstone can innately tell because "it's maaagic", it just invokes disbelief. |

How about they already invented a timekeeping device before Kal'Dathra's fall. These timekeeping devices were all over the place and were luckily strong enough to survive the ensuing chaos that came forth over time. With the godstone of fate crushed, everyone had a surge of inspiration on how to use these ancient mechanical monoliths that were dedicated to tell the time. |

I was thinking a primitive device, such as a sundial, except instead of utilizing sunlight, it utilizes the vibrations felt in the planet as it rotates. It could be constructed out of some rock that's naturally attuned to the planet's wavelength/frequency/what have you. We could always explain that with SCIENCE! if you guys want, if and when we have to. |

Okay, so for the record, there is a way to tell time, as opposed to the notion that they just don't understand the concept? |

Yes. But there is no regular day/night cycle, but there is a measurable way to look at time in this world. The only regularity would be the seasonal migration of certain animals, or breeding seasons, or hatching seasons. |

Day, season, and year are all connected to the revolution of earth to the sun. If there's no sun...
It is almost a man's instinct to measure everything and use anything as a measuring tool. The inhabitants would have mundane means of measuring time. Words can be used to measure time. The time to pronounce one thousand one is approx one second.
One way of telling the time is there is this great relic from before the godfallwars that accurately tells time and they call it the clock. But i don't like this idea. |

I agree with Xtian.
Having an artifact survive the GFW, while an easy fix, feels wrong. No artifact should survive. unless it's a Godstone. |

An example:
A godstone from a god of time and rainbow changes colors at exactly the same interval. People made it a way of measuring the passage of time. |

Earth? What is this "Earth"?
Earth revolves around the sun. Does our planet do the same? Could not the universe revolve around our planet? |

Hmm. Interesting directions we're going here. Recommend splitting this off into the Sinaghari and the Timekeeping/Seasons threads, as I'd originally thought this one along the lines of culture, history, and way of war thread.
One reason I'm beginning to prefer the "Wild Sun" idea is that at least we don't have to get so much of a headache doing this chronometrics.
Still, the "Dead Sun" idea is much more evocative.
Using constellations and stuff would be an interesting means of keeping time, etc, but it feels a bit wonky.
Again, I highly recommend Orson Scott Card's How to Write Science Fiction and Fantasy, and if anyone wants to borrow my copy, just approach me at the tambayan. The Dead Sun would make for a lot of story fodder, but it's a concept with enormous ramifications for the campaign setting that need to be thoroughly thought out. |

@b_b
I have no problem with a geocentric model. Maybe galaxy going around the world instead of the whole universe.
@revan
With the geocentric model, it could work. I just haven't thought of that because I was fixated with the wasteland type campaign setting having thick red orange clouds.
Btw, do we have a moon? |

BUMP!
Has anything been agreed upon yet? Wild Sun VS Dead Sun? I need the status of the sun as some sort of descriptive feel when i start imagining the cities.
(By cities, I mean sentients living together in one place) |
