Posted: Fri Aug 10, 2007 11:31 pm Post subject: Werewolf the Forsaken: Faces of Lunacy |
|
I wanted to play WtF so much that I decided to run a game. Thursday afternoons, 4 pm and up. I have three players so far (Mojie, Myke, and Coronel), but there's room for more. Any takers?
For those who would like to join:
I only need three things from you currently: your preferred Auspice, preferred Tribe, and basic character concept (i.e. boring office-worker, passionate environmentalist, fledgling writer, etc.) For more info, read the Werewolf the Forsaken core book (which I'll be showing players later next week).
Some campaign notes:
-I am roleplaying the first change. Ergo I require the above information.
-Once the above info is given to me, the choices are locked in. Meaning they cannot be changed under any circumstances.
-The campaign will consist of five stories, each story consisting of several chapter. One chapter = one game session (or maybe two per session, depends on the pace we take really)
-The campaign is designed for players of all levels of familiarity with World of Darkness games. I'm not just gonna toss you into the campaign and expect you to know what you're doing. I'll be teaching you guys most of the basics, especially during the first chapter.
What I'll need from players:
-D10's. All you can spare and more. I kid you not, we will be needing a veritable bucket of them when we play.
-Create characters, not tricked out combat machines. I don't know if I can stress that enough. Truth be told, I'm not planning a lot of combat per session here. How your character reacts to seeing a monster, for example, is as important as how well s/he can overcome the threat (if not more so). This brings me to my next requirement.
-Detailed character descriptions. I know this might sound contradictory to my earlier statements, but lemme explain. I need Auspice and Tribe info asap, that's a given. But I want to be able to imagine your characters when we play: their motivations, their strengths, their flaws. I want to know which person, what thing, or what place is very important to them.
If I ask an appearance question on your characters, you should be able to answer. Essentials include height, weight, age, eye color, hair color, skin color, nationality, hairstyle, general everyday attire, and any and all appearance quirks (e.g. Her hair is blue, and she wears a necklace made of teeth!).
Basically, if I can't see in my mind's eye what your characters look like (or, hell, if you can't see what they look like) then you're not trying hard enough. I think this is fair; I just want everybody to have a clear picture of what's going on in each scene. Detailed descriptions will help with that.
These can wait, however. Just try to have them up before we start (so that gives you guys like a week to prepare). I'll start up an online character thread when (or if) the roster expands.
That does it for now. If anyone is even slightly interested and has free time on that Thursday time slot, do try to join the campaign. I can take a lot more players than I could with a DnD game, and better still, rates of exp gain don't suffer with an increase of players.
Once the list of players is finalized, I'll write up the introduction. I'm thinking of setting it in Virginia, or something. If--and this is a big if--I decide to run it based on the Phils. I'll prolly use Baguio as a setting. But we'll see; gimme some time to think about it first. _________________ And I'm still, still longing. Still cold... so cold. |

It's been decided via voting, and the campaign will be based in Baguio. Which consequently means your characters will be, well, Pinoy, unless you guys don't want them to be, or something. _________________ And I'm still, still longing. Still cold... so cold. |

Can you go for 530 start time? I really want to join in. But not a problem also if you can't set back the time. _________________ Words are the only bullets in truth's bandolier. And poets are the snipers.

I'll ask the others. I have no problems, personally.
Just so I can get this aside right now, please state your preferred Auspice and Tribe. Choose well, because choices will be locked in. _________________ And I'm still, still longing. Still cold... so cold. |

For information on wolves (appearance, biology, etc.), Wikipedia is a good place to start, as usual. Hope you guys find the info here useful (ex. choosing your wolf's fur coat color, etc.)

|
If we want to do some fluff text, story logs, whatever, where do we post them?
And consider this my first bit of fluff text.
Aftermath
(Timeline a few hours after Alex and Tasha frag the journalist, still a few days before we meet the rest of the pack. Taking a few liberties with the old pack's lodging, but I remember boy_bakal mentioning an old house and a fire place, so I'm just extrapolating from there)
Tasha planted her arms on the balcony railing and leaned out into the cool night air. Baguio's hillsides twinkled with lights, but they were paltry, insignificant before the glorious light of the full moon that shone in the night sky. Tasha looked up, drinking in the light of the Killing Moon. There was something reassuring about staring up at the face of Mother Luna; something deep, primal, and comforting about basking in her radiance. After what they had done tonight, Tasha needed all the reassurance she could get.
"Great Mother give me strength."
"We are warriors. Killing is our business. No hesitation."
Bert pulled the trigger, the gun spitting three staccato bangs, and then silence. She remembered kneeling down, running her hand through the spreading pool of blood, watching her hand turn scarlet. The journalist never even stood a chance.
"What, still moping?" Bert's gruff voice sounded behind her.
Tasha didn't turn. She just locked her eyes on the orb of the full moon above her.
"I..Ah...Yeah."
Bert snorted. "We were given a job. We did it. End of story. Get over it."
Tasha sighed. "Yeah. Well, I think..."
"What?"
"We could have...We could have done better. There were other ways. We could have turned him, used him, made him into an ally, or a weapon..."
"An untrustworthy ally and an untried weapon. The simplest and best option was killing him. We removed the threat he posed. And I thought you had the heart of a warrior. The heart of a true Suthar Anzuth. We kill. That is our duty."
Tasha turned her gaze down, towards Baguio by night. In the distance, she could hear the wail of police sirens, and perhaps the hint of gunfire.
"I...I don't know. We win! That's our duty! We fight, we die, we give all so that we can be sure that in the end, our cause, our pack, wins! If we just Rage, and kill, then we're no better then these Pure that the Loremaster keeps telling me about. We can't just kill anyone and anything we please! We kill to win, and if there are other ways that are just as sure we take them, because once we shed blood, then there's no going back. We aren't rabid wolves! There's got to be a better way!"
"Are you calling me a Rabid Wolf, pup? Are you saying that what we did was wrong?" Bert's voice had turned into a guttural snarl and the faint whiff of aggression pheromones told Tasha that the elder Blood Talon had shifted to Dalu form.
Tasha willed herself to stillness, slowing her breathing, passively keeping the back of her neck exposed and vulnerable to Bert, as well as keeping her arms resting on the balcony railing.
"Do you think what we did was wrong, pup?"
"No. It wasn't wrong. It can't have been wrong"
Tasha could sense a slight whiff of confusion behind her. "After all that emo crap you just spouted? Explain."
"We did our duty. We ended a threat to the Uratha. We did what we believed had to be done. I still think we could have dealt with him differently. I think there were other ways. We don't win all our battles with guns and fists. But we won this battle anyway. It wasn't wrong and it couldn't have been. The rules...the rules are different now than from before."
"Hmmph. So we did the right thing?" There was a hint of amusement in Bert's tone, and she could tell he had shifted back to Hishu form.
"Maybe not the best thing. But it was one of the right choices. I don't know how to say it. I've run out of the right words. But I can't live like I used to a few months ago. The old Dasher would have been freaked once she saw all that blood splattered around the alley. But now? It's different. It's...I don't know. I can't allow myself to think just like a human, not anymore. And I don't understand what it's like to think like a wolf. But I can't be one or the other. I have to be both. Wolf and Human. Uratha. The rules are just...so...different. And there's so much more that I don't know about what it means to be one of us!"
Bert remained silent for close to a minute before answering. "Well. What do you know. Words of wisdom."
Tasha looked back up at the moon. It's light was pure, and warm, and she knew that Mother Luna was pleased.
"What does it mean to be one of us, kiddo? Harmony. That's what the Loremasters call it. And you're right. We don't play by the same rules anymore. You have to be both. Hishu and Urhan. The Uratha are both. And you're right. There's still much for you to learn. But then again, somebody said that 'knowing what you don't know is the first step to wisdom.'"
"Now, maybe, just maybe, there might have been a better way. But I did what I thought had to be done. I killed. And you'll have to learn to do the same. Maybe you'll be able to find other ways to win your battles. But never forget this lesson. Killing can get the job done. Can I trust you to strike without hesitation next time Tasha?"
Tasha turned around and looked Bert in the eye. "Ready to strike and to do whatever else needs to be done."
They held the stare for a moment, before Tasha playfully broke the silence. "So, are we still friends, Bert?"
The other Talon chuckled. "We're Pack. That means so much more. Stop thinking just as a human. Now, the Ritemaster has been wondering when you would prove yourself worthy of another Renown, Tasha, so that he can finally complete your Spirit Brand. You already have the heart of Glory, gifts of the Cahalunim and Fenris-Ur. Now, I think you've proven yourself worthy of something else entirely. You've taken the first steps down the path of Wisdom. May you find whatever you seek down that road. Rest up, and then we can start on the rite."
-end fluff
Notes
-This bit just explains Tasha's one dot in Wisdom, the extra dot during character creation. And I figure I needed to work out how Tasha thinks anyway.
-If there are any factual inaccuracies, bits out of flavor, changes you want to make, boy_bakal, just text or PM me later. In particular, Bert's last two paragraphs seem a little bit too well spoken. Been considering having another member of the elder pack saying those words, but I'm sticking to who and what I know. _________________ Words are the only bullets in truth's bandolier. Pretty well done overall. Take note the unit beneath the unit is subterranean, but the railing can be incorporated with ease.
Good analysis of the human/wolf dynamic. Bert stresses that, as a Blood Talon, you will be called on to do a lot of the dirty work, and you will do it to the best of your capabilities. He mentions, again, no hesitation.
Here is a fine place to put it. I recommend the others read it too, get it into their heads that their werewolves have to play by a new set of rules from now on. _________________ And I'm still, still longing. Still cold... so cold. |

Cooking up more fluff text. Since I'm supposed to be the Pack's Cahalith anyway, I may as well get into the Lorekeeper mood.
On related notes:
-What are we going to call our pack? Something to do with Eagle symbolism I take it? Eagle-Talons? whatever, guys, cook up some names.
-Where's everyone else's character bios? Tasha wants to find out more about her new packmates! Besides, if everyone has a fair idea of everyone else's bios, it should be easier to RP inter-character interactions. Easier RP = more fun, and maybe even more XP if things turn out well/hilariously/stupidly. _________________ Words are the only bullets in truth's bandolier. And poets are the snipers.
