i tried a game yesterday with phil and xtian. i must say it went rather well. it's really more RP-oriented but it's fun. you use the roll and keep system (which is the same as the system used in Vampire: the Masquerade) as opposed to the d20 system, which makes for some interesting stuff.
also, what's good here is that casters and fighters are pretty much on par (as far as i can tell anyway). that means all characters stand more or less on even ground when it comes to combat (at early levels, at least).
given our experience with L5R, i'm suddenly interested in joining the campaign that phil has been wanting to run for a while. i actually recommend this for the other RPGers, too. even if you're really used to d20 it's pretty easy to learn... and just think of all the untapped powergaming potential!
