An interesting discussion at the moment is WotC's decision (or lack thereof) to make their ‪#‎dnd5e‬ core books available as pdfs.
Some would argue that as a step towards preventing ‪#‎piracy‬, this approach really is not effective as dedicated people will make pdfs available, even if it means removing pages from the spine to make high quality, full-color scans. They also point to the debacle of 4E's PHB 2, of how it was made electronically available almost immediately, and how WotC responded by shying away from pdfs for a considerable amount of time.

This is the 21st century, after all, and WotC should be embracing the digital age.

Aren't they already doing that, though? WotC is making a large chunk of its catalog available as pdfs through dndclassics.com. ‪#‎dnd5B‬ (Basic) is available for free as a pdf. Dungeonscape (formerly Project Morningstar) will the successor to 4E's DDi. It's also being reported that the text of the core books will be available through Dungeonscape, probably in a format similar to Kindle's DRM offerings.

Is it enough, though, for WotC to use Basic as their core rules pdf and Dungeonscape as their digital counterpart? Will the pdf format (which has the distinction of being exact digital replicas of the dead tree books) be missed, given that pirates will always make it available, anyway? In your opinion, will it result in lost revenue for WotC?

Is an unwillingness to embrace pdfs for their core books an indication of a failure to adapt to the future? On the flipside, is a stubborn demand for pdf copies of the books a sign of living in the past? (The 90s - 00s in this case.)
