This is <ModRedact>, an applicant from last sem and a recent addition to HGC's roster (maybe?). Unfortunately, due to schedule restrictions, I wasn't able to show up at the tambayan as much as I wanted. Anyway, I suppose it's only proper that I formally introduce myself; like Knightingale, russianguyovic, and poisonous magic pie, I also hail from UP GRAIL, but it seems that we have been evicted from our tambayan of olde, but instead of picketing for our basic human rights I decided to relocate to AS Hill.

I joined HGC primarily because I wanted to learn DND. By now I'm pretty familiar with the core mechanics mostly due to the "tutorial games" with boy_bakal, juaberman et al. last sem. But even before, I was interested in DND 'cause a lot of the PC games I've played and enjoyed seem to be largely based on it. S.S.I. DOS games (relevant: Dark Sun), Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Neverwinter Nights, etc.

Off the top of my head, here are my other interests/"things that give me a boner"
- Adventure games/RPGs
- Justin Bieber (No.)
- Movies that don't usually include Rob Schneider or Matthew McConaughey in the cast
- Zombies especially Zombie Pirates
- Ron Perlman narrating my life
- Listening to music that doesn't make me look like a douche but only moderately cool
- Kurt Russell in Escape from New York
- Spock in "Mirror, Mirror"
- SF by Anne McCaffrey, C.J. Cherryh, Elizabeth Moon, Andre Norton, Catherine Asaro. It's not like I prefer womyn writers, not at all.
- 80s wrestling themes
- This

That's pretty much it.

Also, <ModRedact>

Hello Trogdor!

Welcome to the forums and as a welcoming present, let me present you with your first modding! XD

/ModModeON
-General rule that we don't give RL names on the boards unless your username already is your RL name.
-Language, m'dear. Your shoutout ending was a blast, but, interpretable in possibly offensive ways. Not that I want to be the group censor, given that I'm a foulmouthed sob myself, but especially here in an introduction forums, not quite kosher with the group's ORGASM, part one. In the Anything Goes Thread or other places, possibly less of a problem.
/ModModeOFF

I must say this: awesome authors roster in your reading list. Been following McCaffrey's PERN books (and loved that transition from pastoral-medieval fantasy into full-blown SF), and I know Elizabeth Moon more for her Paksennarion series (which is heavily D&D-inspired, if you look at what her paladins can do) rather than her SF. Know the other names, but less familiar with their works.

Were the SSI Dark Sun Games any good? I remember playing the first one in the arena levels way back when I was in grade school (why did I have to say that, I feel so old now), and some crazy bit in me is wondering if it's worth trawling through abandonware sites looking for it? Of course, if SSI/WotC are still maintaining their copyrights, well no go I guess.

Have fun, and enjoy the boards!

I believe she can reveal her own name if she wants to, Rev. She just can't offer other posters' names unless they offered it in the same thread.

@Trogdor: Hello. I am one of the stricter mods here, so don't expect me to be all buddy-buddy like Revan. Anyway, the name issue is not in the Organizational Rules, Guidelines, and Such Matters, so we usually let that one off with a minor moderation. But vulgar language is in the ORGaSM, so while I have nothing against your appreciation for male chickens, I advise you to watch your language.

Welcome to the boards. Very Happy

Pretty bad day for your introduction, being modreacted and such.
Don't let it stop you from posting here though, just follow the rules, they're there for a reason Very Happy

btw, if i'm guessing it right, you're one of juaberman's players for the Dark Sun game he's going to run this sem. If so, I'm one of the few players with you whose gonna venture the Dark Sun. hooray for us!

As the Goderator always tell, jingle and mingle within the boards. Laughing

Welcome aboard our forums. Feel free to post!! And btw since she/ he was the one who offered her/his name, is it proper that someone put it back since I don't know her in RL yet and I might bump into her in the near future in the tambayan at least for reference.

I realize that now! And I sincerely apologize. I keep forgetting that the Internet is not homogeneous in its vulgarity, and not everyone appreciates catchphrases involving adult male fowls.

@Revan
Glad to see another fan of Pern, and I have also read and enjoyed the first book of the Paks series. I've been looking for the other books for the longest time now. It's one of the more authentic portrayals of a paladin I've read, and the lack of self-righteousness in Paks is refreshing.

WELL. I last played Dark Sun was when I was in 4th grade (via Home of the Underdogs, I dunno if it's still available there), primarily because it's the one of the games our processor can handle (cheap reason I know) The arena levels you're talking about were at the beginning of the game, were they not? Anyway it was extremely buggy, which was why I wasn't able to finish it. It's one of the first PC RPGs I was exposed to with a dark fantasy setting, and I still clearly remember some sidequests with the Illithids and busting in magical tapestries and whatnot. It was fun at the time. Maybe even worth revisiting in today's engines. *Sigh* now I want to find me some abandonware.

Hello there Erwin, and yes I am! Was? I heard it was discontinued though... So I dunno. TBA?

@Xtian @dark_axis

Thanks for the welcome! I'll be sure to follow posting protocol from now on! Haha.

yeah, too bad. But I think juaberman might run another one this sem, so watch out for that Very Happy If there are player slots left for such campaign I think I'll join as well.

Or I might run a campaign. I'm not sure, I'll think and talk about it some other time.

I think juaberman's game is only postponed, not discontinued. All he needs is the commitment of a good number of players (I usually peg mine at 5, but some are okay with 4), and I'm sure he'll run it.

And he's played under my last Dark Sun game, and I'm pretty sure he's got the feel of the setting right. I look forward to hearing about that game when (not if) it does get off the ground. Very Happy

Same here. I read the trilogy way back in the high school library, and I eventually found a copy of Sheepfarmer's Daughter, but I can't find the other two books. I do have one of the spinoff books on Gerd and Luap, Liar's Oath iirc. It's actually interesting watching her evolve as a character. And the Red Duke's Company is awesome. Hauk drill ftw.

How's the rest of Moon's SF corpus? I don't really know where to start with her Serrano books and her other new series, the one about the merchant captain.

Or just mosey on over to the "what are you reading" thread.
