Disclaimer: Since this discussion has come to a halt, I took the time to make my own homebrew, based on d20 modern/future. Both books are non-OGL, mind, so I will refrain from copy-pasting stuff directly.

Rest assured that while I might not use most of the material that we have discussed here, the whole discussion proved useful in crafting my homebrew. You will see concepts incorporated here and there, and I'll give credit when appropriate.

If I forget to mention you when I use something that you have come up with, kindly remind me the error of my ways via PM.

I'm on a roll right now, I think I can speed this up.

Reminder to people: I will have a tendency to outright ignore posts you guys make on my "Starcraft Rules" Threads. If you want to voice out opinions/suggestions, please direct to this, the general discussion thread, or the Tentative Weapons thread, whichever is appropriate. thank you.

@Revan: Way ahead of you. That's exactly what I'm using.

That said, the marine powersuit still baffles me. It's still medium iirc, so i can't make it mecha under normal d20 rules. But I do want to make it something similar. An exemption, maybe? I'm thinking +2 or +4 equipment bonus to strength, +6 to armor, Some armor check penalty?

Suggestions are welcome.

Fanboyism makes me want to consider the zergling as a small creature.
However, looking at it more closely, it might be wolf-sized, making it medium for d20 purposes.

Which size do you think I should use?

(Insert: I really want to give the zergling the pounce ability, lol)

If the zergling becomes medium, then hydralisk becomes large.

Valid, since ingame, the hydralisk and the Goliath (declared large mecha) take up the same space in a transport.

But what does that tell us about the Dragoon? Huge quadruped mecha? Hmm...

I say Zerglings are medium, hydralisks are large, goliath is same.
Let's just use space occupied on transport as reference. Razz

However, their sprite sizes on map are different. You can fill more hydra than goliath on an equal space. Goliath is almost as large as dragoon sprite-wise. Flavor-size, I put hydra as medium size character. CHeck out this page stat and the pic (which I know everyone here are familiar). Compare the size of the skulls to the hydralisk's head. Hydras are about 6' tall. Way below the large size border.

Zerglings could work as small.

Hello. Pardon if I just barged in but I wanna join this campaign if it pushes through. XD

Also.. Opinions.

In-game, Zerglings and Marines are small, Hydralisks are medium, Goliaths and Dragoons are large. However, if you classify them using humans as reference, their sizes move one step up [medium Zergling & Marine, etc.]

Zerglings are just as large as an average human [thanks to the claws on their backs]. Hydralisks are not that big, they're about 7 feet in height [18 in length, wtf. Stretched, of course.]. Strangely enough, Mutalisks are also small in-game. Lol.

It's fine to barge in kitty!

And yes, I agree to almost what the kitty cat said.

I noticed that the mutalisks are small-sized due to the dragoons (explosive damage) having too much time killing them.

Zerglings are human-sized. Check.

Hydralisk's are Large, if I total the whole body structure. Check.

Okay, research tells me that SCV's are 14feet tall, and Goliaths are 18feet. Is 18feet huge d20-wise already, Xtian? I will modify my Goliath entry if ever.

You are right. 18ft is huge size as DMG p 29 and MM p 314. (It's a "small" huge actually, being on the lower end of size bracket).

SCV is Large. ("Large" large lol. You get the idea)

Zergling is med. (it's long a "long" small)

Hydralisks. Certainly, they are not huge. Check rhemorraz entry for the comparison of their length. I would put them medium size. Height-wise they stand a little taller than marines. Length may not be that huge factor since their lower body are not stretched out (purple worm 80ft long but gargantuan; should be colossal at 64ft, another is frost worm, 40ft huge). Marilith, 9ft tall 20 ft long critter is large because its height is above 8ft, the max for medium size creatures. They are 6 to 7 feet hence medium size. Marilith for me is the best creature for hydralisk to compare to due to some similarity of body structure.

That's about 8 feet in height... ending all arguments on how tall it really is.. Laughing

Further quotes:

starcraft wiki wrote:
The CMC Powered Combat Suit is a bulky exoskeleton used by Terran soldiers, namely Marines, Firebats[1] and Medics.[2] Raising its user by a full foot in height, it was developed by the Cirion Multinational Corporation.

So I guess if the human height averages 6 ft, that's just still, a medium...

For more information about the suits of other Terran Infantry, just click here

This is an answer to BJ's query during our chat:
starcraft wiki wrote:

Protoss can use their psionic abilities to shield themselves, charge their tools and weapons, and tomake, manipulate or meld matter.[59] At least some of these abilities can only be used by a small minority of Protoss without technological assistance (such as the creation of shields).[/url]

Lots of information I found... Greatly useful...

I'm glad you liked it. XD Will try to post the zergling version that i used tomorrow. Fire up constructive criticisms! How well did it play? Was it a proper CR2 threat?

In game, Marines and SCV's look roughly the same size, but as was said, a Marine Power Suit increases the height by roughly a foot, while the SCV is practically a mecha.

Was it a CR2 threat each or combined? It was scary for something like that to pounce on a person. Laughing

What do you think, guys?

Concerns:

*I am as of yet uncertain with the mental stats. Intelligence is rightly 1, but how about wisdom and charisma? I didn't want them to have wisdom 10-11, because that'll put their will save to +3. As for charisma, should it be 1, as well?
*Zerg traits are on the races thread. No one has commented on them yet. Does that mean it's good as is?
*I'm thinking of replacing run with this feat:

Unnamed Feat
You have evolved stronger regenerative tissues
Pre-requisite: Zerg
Benefit: You gain Fast Healing equal to your Constitution Modifier. This ability stacks with the Zerg Fast Healing Racial trait.

I know, in SRD, closest feat is the Fast Healing epic Feat. But this one can't be taken multiple times, plus is restricted to Zerg. Is it still to strong?

As for name suggestions, zerg feats should sound biological (Gamete Meiosis, Chitinous Plating, etc).

Feel free to critique away.

I disagree on your second statement, supertotoy. Razz

I agree that they are certainly not huge. But if they are a tad bit taller than marines (who are already at the scrape of medium thanks to the powersuit height increase).

Minotaurs in MM are more than 7 feet tall, and are large.

Goliaths from Races of Stone (not confused with the Starcraft Mecha) are 7-8 feet tall, and while medium, they have powerful build (something I definitely won't put on a hydralisk).

Am putting off design of the h'lisks until size issue is resolved. Smile thanks, guys, keep it up!

OH SHI-
Since there will be advanced strains of Zerg [prolly Hunter Killers and a Torrasque onoz], can we have "specialized" equipment, too? Like the Vulture of Jim Raynor or Alan Schezar's Goliath [40 ground attack and 60 air attack.. ZOMG I WANT THIS]

Revan regarding Terran Infantry Armor wrote:
Looking good so far. For the sake of plausibility though, you may want to increase the weight of the armor. It looks far too light at the moment, especially when compared to portrayal of marine armor as uberheavy. maybe 20lbs for the lightest of the tactical, all the way up to 50 for the heaviest. This will hopefully be balanced by the strength enhancement provided by these armors.

Thanks for the suggestions, Revan! I'll edit the weights as appropriate. Will try to see how to do it within the scope of the rules in D20future/d20 future tech. Smile

EDIT: Changed the weights. Check it out.

My take on Protoss racial traits. I might change it in the future.

"They watched over a particular species of hunters and warriors and discerned that they indeed had a purity of form, as they were incredibly adaptable and had unmatched strength and speed. "

*+4 str, +4 dex, +2 con, +2 int, -2 cha. Protoss are strong, agile and healthy but they are stubborn, close-minded, and conservative.
*Speed: 40 feet. They have digitigrade legs that make them move faster.
*Size: Medium. Protoss are over 3 meters tall, but they function more as a medium creature as they have narrow frame.
*Telepathy 100 ft.
*Plasma Shields: Any damage dealt to a protoss goes to its shield points until they are depleted. Shield points have hit points equal to charisma modifier+1d12 per hit die. This generates at a rate equal to charisma modifier per round. Plasma shields absorbs as much damage as possible. For example if a bullet that deals 2d6 points of damage would damage to a protoss, the shield absorbs 12 points of damage. Any excess damage would deal damage to the protoss equal to the rolled damage minus absorbed damage.
*Superior Low-light vision: Protoss can see four times as far as a human in starlight, moonlight, torchlight, and similar conditions of low illumination
*Naturally Psionic: Has 2 bonus power points.
*Immunity to sleep.
*+2 Natural Armor. A Protoss' skin is tough as they are adapted to different conditions and dangers of space.
Level Adjustment: +2
*Alignment: Inclination to lawful.

_________
edit - redundant word.
edit2 - change bonus to wis to bonus to int. Their technology is more advance than human.

I will use most aspects of this protoss race idea. I am, however, still thinking about the shields.

Will either adapt Xtian's/think up my own before Wednesday. And oh, no alignment in modern, so inclination to lawful is out. There is still the matter of allegiance, though, that my beta players should soon have.

As for now...*yawn...* Sleep is good...

@BJ: SInce your already doing GMing maybe you can make a campaign discussion thread on the appropriate forum. Let's keep this thread for flavor-to-mechanical conversion.

Shields: You can make it a flat 5+cha mod shield points per HD if you don't want rolling.

Goliath. Back in AS hill i was so sure that it wasn't the "weapons" mounted on a goliath's groin that shoot enemies. It turned out that i was correct. There are few goliath pix below firing their autocannons.

Some goliath pix.

So what the hell is that thing attached to the goliath's groin? The answer is here. It was a gun then it was replaced with missile rack. Later, the autocannons were replaced with missile tubes capable of striking down land targets.

And in case you guys didn't know, Alan Shezar has a biography.

Few pix:

P.S.:
How much is the customization in your game? Can gols be equipped with lasers? Jump jets? Can gols be customized to look like the ff:

Of course, not in same scale as their original world. Revan I know you are reading this quit smiling.

Done, master goderator. Very Happy

Thanks for the linkage! I will look those threads up in a while. To answer your question:
*I will post a standardized Goliath. This is customizable, although only within the limits of PL6 (Terrans are not yet that technologically advanced). Although Raynor's Rangers might have spent just enough time with their Protoss allies (PL8) for all the uber cool laser effects. Not to mention some psionic integrations.

Wraiths and cruisers already have lasers. There's even pistols that fire lasers. If possible I also want psi-blades on my mecha. hmmm..... mecha pilot .... THe name is Domon Kashu.

And yeah ... there goes my plan to become a mecha pilot all the way from scv to gol to viking to thor. Laughing

They figured out lasers; but so far experiments on putting them onto Goliaths have been in vain. They haven't made one small enough yet, although... Making a bigger Goliath *cogh* *Thor* *cough* might be worth it...

Oh, let's just say with enough cash you prolly could. Very Happy

EDIT: Oh, wait, pistols?? Well, that changes things.

Laser pistols. I was also surprised myself. It was from a starcraft novel though but I checked it and laser pistols are not inconsistent with SC canon.

Not STS/STA lasers. Some other form of laser, because Battlecruiser weaponry is too large to fit an 18-ft goliath.
