With the given schedule, I might have a little trouble with the Feb 20 schedule as I am supposed to go home every week and I will not be going home this weekend. And its a little hard for my parents to allow me not to go home for 2 consecutive weeks. I'll just think of an excuse so I can go Smile.

InfinityZero, please inform me ASAP if you will be unable to come, so that I can make preparations. Be advised that the first game session is crucial, so if you don't make it, you'll probably lose your slot.

@BJ: I'll happily assist however I can, though that depends on what exactly assistant DM-ing involves! :B Otherwise, initiative tracker it is.

I'll even contribute to the foodpool to earn my keep, especially since I'll probably be nicking some of it myself. Very Happy

As for getting to the venue, I'll probably be either a) bumming a ride off PMP, or b) commuting, so I'd probably need to know how to get there from UP/the Katipunan area. The timing on Feb 20 actually works pretty well for me, since uh, I'm dragging PMP to my other, other, OTHER Org's show on the same day, which runs at 3PM and 7PM. Razz Now I know which tickets to get.

Assistant DM looks at the list of threats prepared for the day and points the interesting little powers that the DM may have missed (much to the player's chagrin) as well as give the occasional tactical advise. >.>;;

Since you're mostly new with the DnD game, Knightingale, you wouldn't have to worry about suggesting tactics. In fact, I have the habit of studying monster combinations beforehand (On days where I miss actions while DMing, that generally means I wasn't prepared enough for the day), so that base is covered.

Aside from tracking initiatives, I may ask you to monitor monster hit points, though I'm not too sure about that yet. The most complicated thing that I may ask you to do is to control some of the mook monsters so I can focus on the tactics of the bigger guys.

@d_a: In the interest of fairness, I'm requiring you to post your character here in this thread by Sunday at the latest. Start out with 100 ceramic pieces, which I am using as the equivalent of the PHB gold piece. Also add a +2 enhancement bonus to attack and damage rolls, and a +1 bonus to all defenses. Otherwise, go with the same rules as a typical DnD character, with the following exceptions.

Available races:
*Dwarf
*Eladrin/Elf (they will represent the same Athasian elf race for now, rp-wise)
*Half-Elf
*Halfling
*Human
*Goliath (to represent the half-giant)
*Half-orc (to represent the Mul)
*Githzerai (to represent the Gith race)
*Revenant (using one of the races above as the race in life)
Available classes:
*Any WotC official non-divine class
*A warlock patron will always be one of the Sorcerer-Kings. For the sake of simplicity, you cannot take King Kalak of Tyr as your patron. If you choose warlock, tell me the pact you prefer so that I can help you choose an appropriate SK.

@d_a: Yup. Although I would much prefer it if you do it earlier, since I need
to incorporate your character into the story somehow. A plotshield isn't very helpful in Dark Sun, but hey, a small advantage is better than none. *hint hint*

@gale: I should be PMing you by the end of the night regarding directions.

@BJ: Got the directions, thanks! They seem easy enough to follow, so I shouldn't have a problem.

On the subject of assistant DMing: if that's the most I need to do, that all sounds pretty doable to me, so I'm totally up to it! If nothing else, it will be good experience! Very Happy

Sorry for the late post. I almost went to the hospital last night since I almost had a heart attack. I'm fine now just in case anyone's asking. =P I'm still missing one feat though since I can't decide at the moment. Sorry for the format, I'll fix it later.

Due to unforeseen circumstances (flood of academics-related work), I cannot come this Feb 20. I guess I'll just have to drop my position for the role. Is there anyone that can take-over?

Well, that's okay, InfinityZero.

So Knightingale, you still want to take a character slot? Razz

@d_a: Cool, a rogue. A few things:
*Your rapier is made of light obsidian.
*As for your last feat, Flash of the Blade (Dragon 381) seems like a good choice. The ability to deal sneak attack even without CA is awesome, even if it might overlap with your Duelist's Fury at-will. But if the overlap unsettles you, then Slaying Action (MP) is also a good, popular choice.
*You are perhaps the only member of these boards who's more of a Dark Sun fan than I am, so I expect you to know stuff about our dessert-running elves. Wink Interestingly, we start off near an Elven Market, so it's easy to incorporate your character. You probably just have to b*tt into the business of some senator. Laughing

Yeah, I'm still interested! The usual "I'm still more of a n00b than the n00best of the n00bs" disclaimer applies, though, so if you could throw any required reading material my way (anything that would count towards being a crash course in playing, or getting a feel for the world) that'd be a huge help. Very Happy

ETA: Oh right. The only big thing will be that as a hapless student whose teachers enjoy either scheduling a) tests, b) make-up classes on Saturdays, there may be some sessions I'll be unable to attend. @_x I should be able to give at the least a week's advance warning on such occasions, though.

I sent you a PM, Knightingale. Mostly that solves the roleplaying aspect - I can guide you through the rules on the day itself.

As for schedule conflicts, I see no problems with rescheduling so long as there is indeed a 1-week advance warning. But take note: All requests for re-scheduling will not be considered if raised after the Wednesday prior to the event.

One question! Do we bring our own copies of the character sheets, or will you be providing them?

Also, would it be possible to get PDFs please?

I will create the character sheet pdf's ASAP (aka, when I get home from school tonight). To those who want pdf's of their characters, please PM me your email address (I already have yours, Knightingale).

Otherwise, I'd be printing out the character sheets.

ADD: d_a, what option did you choose for rogue tactics? If it's Artful Dodger, then an interesting suggestion would be defensive mobility. They stack with each other as well as the ardent's Mantle of Clarity, which essentially means your AC vs OAs becomes 30. Twisted Evil

And that was the first game!

Please put in your daily powers/retraining choices here. Also, any rp considerations that you're thinking of with regards to the two quests would fit here as well.

Feedback on the game would be appreciated, so I can make the next one better. Very Happy

I'll post the retraining/powers I decide on later, but for now, I'll say that the game was a lot of fun! It's funny, but playing characters I didn't actually come up with is more familiar territory (and in some ways, more enjoyable) for me. Sadira isn't usually the kind of character I'd roleplay, given the choice, but having her jiggle-- er, bluff her way through everything is surprisingly enjoyable. She's actually kind of growing on me.

I do have a feeling that Faenayon being Wynd's employer is a little detail that's just going to BITE US IN THE ASS later. Neutral

I'm not sure if it was the unfamiliarity of the characters or just some really unfortunate dice rolls, but the first battle felt like it took a really long time, so it was kind of frustrating. Maybe it was just that there were enemies that took so many different turns? The second one felt a lot more streamlined, since the one enemy wasn't particularly frustrating (like, say, A FLYING DRAGON) to deal with.

I have a fondness for dealing with NPCs, so getting a chance to talk to more of 'em (and get a better feel of the world) would be awesome-- as would exploring different parts of Athas. Reading through the fluff is one thing, experiencing it vicariously through our character's eyes is another. We've only had a taste of Athas' harshness in the form of its monsters, but now... 8D

And finally, for the benefit of the other players, here are our current quest options!

Quote:
* Find clues to identify Kalak's plan with the ziggurat.

* Find Nok beyond the Ringing Mountains, so he can show you how to find a certain spear.

I'm mostly recalling that last one from memory that is shot to hell, so uh, yeah. 8|;;;

Also, the Staff of Nok!

Quote:
"This otherwise nondescript wooden staff has a perfectly polished obsidian ball at its tip."

Implement (Staff)
Enhancement: +3 to attack and damage rolls.
Critical: +3d6 damage.

Power (Encounter): Minor Action. Effect: You and each ally within 5 squares of you takes damage equal to half their healing surge value. The next arcane attack power that you use before the end of your current turn deals +1d6 damage for every ally (including you) who took damage in this way.

So I guess Sadira's just inherited her first piece of new equipment! : D : D : D I believe that would bring her total attack bonus on spells to... 13 (+8 for her INT, +2 for her attack bonuses at levels 2 and 7, and +3 with the staff)? Correct me if I'm wrong on that.

Thanks for the feedback, Knightingale!

With regards to the 1st fight being long, yeah, part of it's due to the number of opponents, which is a bit unavoidable in D&D. But mostly, that was due to having the fight involve many brute and soldier threats. If you noticed, the templar didn't last as long as the others. I'll try to tone down the brutes/soldiers to maybe two per fight next time.

And yes, the "smarter than your average bear" encounter was really fun. XD

With regards to your attack bonus, I would like to point out that your inherent bonuses at levels 2 and 7 are considered enhancement bonuses, as are your bonus from the staff. In D&D 4E, the rule is that bonuses of the same type don't stack with one another. That is, your attack roll if you use your staff would be +11 (+8 int+level, +3 enhancement), while the damage would increase by 1 point (going from +2 to +3).

Also note that you can't use your arcane bolt (inscribed in your tome of readiness) through the staff, so you don't get the +1 increase in damage with that particular spell. Why did I give you a staff when Sadira's a tome-wizard?

Well, it opens up certain feat choices for you at levels 10, 11, and 12, for one thing. But we'll talk about those when you get to that level.

Lastly, for everybody in the party: If you can't think of a daily power for the specific build of your pregen character, you can always ask me for recommendations. Wink

Oh, if some of you guys like to look at some art (that's not made by Brom), you can check out this guy's gallery. The thri-kreen and the athasian hobbit are pretty cool. Also, until d_a says otherwise, the Athasian Elf in that site is what comes to my mind when I think of Wynd. Razz

It's not official art, but these are actually pretty good.

Agis' plans:

Primary: (besides the goals of finding the Heartwood Spear)
-Find Caro: The grand melee at the Red Cank left us running in total confusion, and in that time, Agis has lost track of Caro. Loyalty is a precious thing, and Agis would prefer an absolutely loyal agent he can trust. Caro might not be a great warrior, but in his role as a majordomo, he can be just as effective as an administrator, manager, and quartermaster for the fledgling rebellion.
-Secure the Asticles estate: Kalak will be coming for his resources soon. Agis owes it to his people to warn them of the coming storm. He doesn't know whether he should just free his slaves (who will promptly get slaughtered by Kalak or the environment), or find something more creative, but he can't just abandon them just yet.

Secondary:
-Arm the rebellion: The ragtag criminals and freemen who have risen up against Kalak are poorly armed and equipped. An angry mob with stones can be a force to be reckoned with. That same mob with spears, clubs, and knives is another thing entirely. Perhaps there might be farming implements at the Asticles estate that can be militarized. A bill hook is great for pruning trees. It's also pretty decent for gutting half-giant guardsman. There might also be a few metal weapons that the other heroes might be able to use.
-Find leaders: The rebels need organization if they want to strike against Kalak. Senator Jasina (did I spell that right?) is a start, and would make a useful firebrand and rabblerouser, but they also need warleaders, organizers, and others to make the force truly formidable.

Character advancement: WIP.

Neeva:

-Getting Stone Bear Rage as Level 9 Daily
-Retraining Combat Surge to Relentless Surge
-Her plans are basically, to follow Rikus wherever he goes, who in turn follows Sadira. Someone needs to watch his back while he's ogling that slut.

Hmm, it seems there's some confusion over the schedule of the next game. Well, here's the confirmation: It will be held at my place on March 13, Saturday, from 1pm-5pm. I trust everyone can get straight here already? If not, please PM me.

dark_axis told me in RL that he won't be able to make it. I should mention now that my policy is thus: At least two people shouldn't be able to make it before a game postponement is even considered. So the game proceeds.

By the way, I'm still waiting on daily powers and retraining from everybody except Neeva. Lock-in for those powers is on Wednesday.
