Hate it everytime new year's comes around and you get the fireworks pollution plus rowdy drunk neighbors singing bad videoke....

Want to go as a backpacker...with no particular itinerary, with just a sketchpad or two, a daypack to spend 4 to 5 days isolated away from the rat race...

Checking airfare rates: Manila to Puerto Princessa is roughly 3k for the 28th

and PP back to Manila is 3.6k on the 2nd of the new year....

don't know if it's safe to sleep on the beach...and am still checking backpacker options...anybody interested????

Updates....deciding to go ala Lonely Planet backpacker...on certain dates (weekdays) flight rates are cut in half...so my current cost profile is roughly 5.5k for a round trip gig...

Checked accomodations: There are great hotels/beach resorts for P1100 a night, and the spartan appartelles and Inns for P650 a night...so a 6 day stay will run to roughly 12k or so....and all that just for some quiet time with a sketchpad at the beach!!! Not really interested in diving or underground river seeing...just a beach or a place with a pool and my Moleskine sketchpad...

Food costs might amount to 2.5k++...

Looks like I'm splurging but I'm also scoping out the place if relocating there would seem to be a good idea...away from the Rat Race....

More updates: Another option is Bantayan Island off Cebu...airfare costs is 5k for round trip tickets that fly on weekdays.

Cheapest lodging is P450 a night at an inn on the town proper. Meals range from P50 to P200, there are carinderias in town and restaurants on the beach. White sand beach resorts cost as low as P990 a night for rooms with no electric fan. It's chilly anyway and you can always bring insect repellent lotion.

This might look as the better option to Puerto Princessa and the only hassle will be the commute from Cebu airport to the Ferry to the island--takes almost half a day. Cebu metro isn't exactly the safest place for tourists.

I f someone tags along for the trip, I can treat em dinner for a week...but you pay for your airfare + whatever extra charge for an extra person in the rooms I'll rent. Still planning to go "Lonely Planet" backpacker on this trip....three days clothes, a sketchpad and a moleskine...

Can't go... I'll probably around with my family or in the office that day.

Thought about it, I'm a no-go.

Diving. Yes, diving.

And resort with soft beds and hot shower, please.

XD

Ahh. Family obligations, what with a few people in my grandfolks generation ready to kick the bucket, I'm stuck with the obligatory last holiday season with them.

Sounds funky though. Enjoy the trip.
