|
Is anyone interested in a LAN party at Paradigm in November?
The basic premise: "Anything except L4D and DotA!"
Any takers? I want to mess around with other games at the moment, and a high school buddy also wants to try more obscure games. I'm actually hankering for a cooperative game of Call of Duty 5, or maybe Team Fortress 2 (cartoon violence is awesome!), or possibly Warhammer: Dawn of War grimdarkery. I'm gauging interest among the HGC group as well. Interested? _________________ Words are the only bullets in truth's bandolier. And poets are the snipers.

Sure, why not. Maybe you can find some decent RTSs; I'm kind of tired of the one-man army set-up usually found in FPS and DoTA. _________________ I will kill. I will let live. I will harm and heal. None will escape me. None will escape my sight.
Be crushed.
I welcome those who have grown old and those who have lost.
Devote yourself to me, learn from me, and obey me.
Rest. Do not forget song, do not forget prayer, and do not forget me.
I am light and relieve you of all your burdens.
Do not pretend. Retribution for forgiveness, betrayal for trust, despair for hope, darkness for light, dark death for the living.
Relief is in my hands. I will add oil to your sins and leave a mark.
Eternal life is given through death.
— Ask for forgiveness here. I, the incarnation, will swear.

Hmm. I'll admit I'm not as familiar with RTS's as I should be these days.
Offhand: Dawn of War 1 or Company of Heroes. Both of these are company-battalion scale, where instead of commanding single troopers, your units organize in squads. Resources are gained through controlling locations in the battlefield.
On the FPS side, I hear Team Fortress 2 is a very nice team shooter, but we'd need 8 people for an optimal 4v4 or larger game. And unlike the grimdark grittyness of a lot of the shooter genre, Team Fortress has a nice "cartoon violence" aesthetic to it that is really cute.
On the coop side, I do want to try Call of Duty 5 in coop mode. We've been trying this before, but due to various technical issues, it hasn't fared that well. I think I know how to configure the game properly now, and I've got a hankering for Nazi gore. Or for those wanting a change, a battle against the Japanese Empire!
For something a bit more different, I sort of want to try Hawk-X, an arcade flight sim with a coop and adversarial mode. _________________ Words are the only bullets in truth's bandolier. And poets are the snipers.

Does Heroes of Newerth count?
I wanna play team fortress 2.
Not into RTS lately, though maybe I should.
We could also go for classics like Half-life, Diablo ( ), or even Starcraft _________________ There is happiness for those who accept their fate. There is glory for those who defy their fate

Still organizing. We want to time it with one November weekend. Will update if we have a better idea of time. Place seems to be Paradigm, as the idea is to try a bunch of other games. If it devolves into DotA, we can do that too, but the idea is to try a bunch of other stuff. _________________ Words are the only bullets in truth's bandolier. And poets are the snipers.

UPDATE: 14 Nov 2009, 1pmish onwards, Paradigm
Yeah, Paradigm is pricier than Alva, but the point is to try other games, and Paradigm has a fair amount of variety. _________________ Words are the only bullets in truth's bandolier. And poets are the snipers.

As the FR is this weekend, let's see about reskedding this one instead. _________________ Words are the only bullets in truth's bandolier. And poets are the snipers.
