Is anyone interested in a LAN party at Paradigm in November?

The basic premise: "Anything except L4D and DotA!"

Any takers? I want to mess around with other games at the moment, and a high school buddy also wants to try more obscure games. I'm actually hankering for a cooperative game of Call of Duty 5, or maybe Team Fortress 2 (cartoon violence is awesome!), or possibly Warhammer: Dawn of War grimdarkery. I'm gauging interest among the HGC group as well. Interested?

Sure, why not. Maybe you can find some decent RTSs; I'm kind of tired of the one-man army set-up usually found in FPS and DoTA.

Hmm. I'll admit I'm not as familiar with RTS's as I should be these days.

Offhand: Dawn of War 1 or Company of Heroes. Both of these are company-battalion scale, where instead of commanding single troopers, your units organize in squads. Resources are gained through controlling locations in the battlefield.

On the FPS side, I hear Team Fortress 2 is a very nice team shooter, but we'd need 8 people for an optimal 4v4 or larger game. And unlike the grimdark grittyness of a lot of the shooter genre, Team Fortress has a nice "cartoon violence" aesthetic to it that is really cute.

On the coop side, I do want to try Call of Duty 5 in coop mode. We've been trying this before, but due to various technical issues, it hasn't fared that well. I think I know how to configure the game properly now, and I've got a hankering for Nazi gore. Or for those wanting a change, a battle against the Japanese Empire!

For something a bit more different, I sort of want to try Hawk-X, an arcade flight sim with a coop and adversarial mode.

Does Heroes of Newerth count? Laughing

I wanna play team fortress 2. Very Happy

Not into RTS lately, though maybe I should.

We could also go for classics like Half-life, Diablo (Laughing), or even Starcraft

Still organizing. We want to time it with one November weekend. Will update if we have a better idea of time. Place seems to be Paradigm, as the idea is to try a bunch of other games. If it devolves into DotA, we can do that too, but the idea is to try a bunch of other stuff.

UPDATE: 14 Nov 2009, 1pmish onwards, Paradigm

Yeah, Paradigm is pricier than Alva, but the point is to try other games, and Paradigm has a fair amount of variety.

As the FR is this weekend, let's see about reskedding this one instead.
