:consored: you Typhoon Ondoy.

With that out of the way, I'd like to ask how you guys are doing post-Ondoy?
Sound in. Safe, warm, high and dry? Swamped? Sound off. Does anybody in the HGC community need help in particular? Old clothes, food, a place to stay, etc?

Also, if anyone wants to donate, here are a bunch of Multiply links with details of how and where to contribute donations, manpower, etc for the storm and flooding victims:

Typhoon Ondoy: Donation and Emergency Hotline links

Hope everyone's okay.

EDIT:
When sounding off, please indicate whether you're "okay" (unscathed or minimal damage) "affected" (displaced, significant damage, etc), and whether you need any help so that the group can see what we can do.

(I'll break protocol here and give RL names of people if I can't easily find their online tags)
Provisional list of HGC Mems and friends status: (update 2230H 30 Sep 2009)

Wilco. The Ateneo relief goods dropoff point is in the college covered courts, right?

We're good, luckily. Don't need much help, we(family) and neighbors are sort of helping each other out already.

I believe nicky's (oldgobbo0) house was flooded though, almost chest high, as they live in a really low place. No word from him, as he wasn't on their house during the calamity. Still trying to contact him, I think he's somewhere in QC during the storm struck, probably with our highschool bud's house (which I don't think was heavily struck)

We are ok. Also apparently vehicular damage was minimal, the engine actually started in testing, so I fully expect to be mobile again within the week Very Happy

BJ was hit pretty hard. Floodwaters reached chest height at worst and a lot of furniture on the ground floor got destroyed.

But they're okay now, just cleaning up the last residues of the flood.

==

We have a lot of stuff at home. I scanned things and I think blankets are in abundance. Unfortunately, I don't have a car. Tsk. I dunno how to bring all of them to a relief center.

We haven't any old clothes to donate, I'm afraid, as we donate clothes during Christmastime. So nothing to donate. =/

@Revan: Where did you bring your relief goods?

==

Not in the spirit of charity, but if anyone knows people (or your family or whatever) who needs furniture to replace destroyed ones, we have a lot.

Tables, chairs, bed frames, a whole sala set (couches and coffee tables), rocking chairs, coffee tables, bookcases, full-length mirrors, bedside tables, a stuffed Pilandok (mouse deer) in a glass case, decorative knick-knacks, oil paintings in frames, huge glass jars, televisions (not flat-screen, though), lamps, a refrigerator, a toaster oven, as well as a multitude of pots and pans, and other kitchenwares. There's even a mahjongg table.

My grandmother migrated to the US and sold her house, but unfortunately the buyer didn't want all the stuff inside. So she promptly dumped everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) at our place.

Yes, that last part belonged to the rant thread, but I thought it was relevant here.

Check out stuff here:

Ateneo needs vehicles to cart the stuff over to people who need it. Also, U.P. is accepting donations at the Church and the student council.

Edit: The UP Diliman community has tasked the University Student Council to assist in accounting for students who may be in need of assistance. Your understanding and cooperation will be highly appreciated in this time of crisis.

1. We are accepting the following donations. You may drop off your contribution( s) at the Church of the Risen Lord, UP Diliman campus.

a. Food: canned goods, noodles, biscuits, bread, rice and potable water
b. Clothing â€" usable, wearable, clean, and dry clothes (any size), slippers
c. Beddings â€" blankets, sheets, pillows
d. Toiletries: soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrush
e. Medicines: Paracetamol, Mefenamic acid, band aids, iodine, alcohol, Doxycycline, etc.

2. Volunteers are encouraged to join the relief efforts. Please contact 0915-8666968 for more details, or drop by the operations center at Church of the Risen Lord, UP Diliman campus.

a. Communications â€" with computers/laptops, cellphones, wireless landlines, radios
b. Sorting and packaging
c. Transportation â€" drivers, big cars, etc

3. For assistance to flooded/missing UP Diliman students, you may send their name, college, location, contact details, and status (flooded, missing, stranded, sick) to any of the following:

a. Cellphone: 0917-8619022
b. Landline: 219-9848
c. E-mail: updusc@...
d. Facebook: updusc@...

You may also fill in the form at this link. http://spreadsheets .google.com/ viewform? formkey=dHpSckxB YmQ1ZUQ5akw2cE80 TkZaY1E6MA

4. Student organizations are highly encouraged to join hands with the USC in making our relief operations more efficient and responsive. Org heads are invited to contact 0917-8114511.

Please forward/repost this in all your UP egroups/etc. Thanks!

@princessa: We dropped the stuff of at the MMDA outpost under the Katipunan flyover, the one near PSBA. It's handy, and the MMDA is using that as a forwarding base for stuff being moved into Marikina, and accessible via LRT, so you can bring in supplies while commuting.

I'm glad to hear in the main that the people seem to be fine. Since a bunch of us are relatively unscathed or lightly hit, is UPHGC interested in volunteering as a group? If you guys are, post it up here and see what you can arrange.

@erwin: Any update on oldg0bb0?

Finally home. My gf's place got swamped recently but we managed to keep things in control. Water was just above the abdomen at that time but nothing to worry about. Hope everyone is fine. I'm interested in doing the volunteer as a group just hook me up for any updates.

Well, classes seem to have been suspended for the whole week. I guess that frees up time. Any takers on the group volunteering proposal?

(And if I have to be bitter and cynical about it, I'd point out that UPHGC needs a few more items to put in their community service summary for org renewal)

Ateneo has a very well run relief ops in their college covered courts, while I saw a slightly smaller operation running in one of the UP chapels. Any takers?

Any other news on HGC and gaming community if anyone else got hit hard?

@gareth: Any news on Doc Hans?

You can cross mojie and jammy off the endangered list -- apart from some flooding, there were not much problems.

I'm alive and kicking...not really, mostly bone tired from hauling a ton of books to my 2nd floor. My 2nd floor now looks like a bodega.

My first floor smells like dead wet rat, is full of caked mud and taob taob na furniture and ref.

Cleaning up is a bitch but all I need is a high-pressure water hose and tide and clorox which I'll get on payday.

Jamie!! can I arbor 2 chairs and a bed frame, I'll pay a small amount if needed....will pick up the furniture once I've cleaned up the first floor...thanks!

Unscathed here. Sadly, we don't have much to donate, since almost all our old stuff gets snapped up by relatives.

Have you guys tried calling again now? The networks have cleared up a bit, although there's still a 10-15 minute lag in receiving text messages. And as my friend described it, Sun has signal again, now that the sun is shining again.

I'm okay. Armpit high at its worst (darn you, high tide), and I lost my precious bookshelf, my dresser, and my room door. The house as a whole lost a number of furnitures and possibly the refrigerator.

But we've been cleaning non-stop since Sunday, so I can now say that the place is as clean as it ever was, wall warping notwithstanding.

Still need to clean the gate itself, and my garden/backyard. My rosemary and chili plants died. Crying or Very sad

All in all, I'm "flood"-ied but unbowed.

Good to hear you're safe and somewhat sound, BJ.
Weather-permitting, our clean up and assistance in Cainta tomorrow will be fast-track as well. I just wish we had MCF's equipment to help us there tomorrow. But I guess that's hoping too much.

On an interesting note, have you guys seen the surfers with their surfboards helping out with rescue and distribution? Dude, they were AWESOME! My phone died then so I couldn't even get photos. But, damn! I never thought I'd see that.

It sure kept my spirits up.

Put the goderator on the list, Rev.

Tried calling his cp# and landline, but both are down. I'm really worried; I'll try to check through Her Serenity, and then get back in touch.

ADD: Her Serenity reports that Xtian is okay now, but their house was submerged to the point that they had to stay at the rooftop.

@don: holy crap. Let's hope that's not the case. Guess all we can do is keep checking.

Okay, we're starting to get rough idea of who got hit and who's safe. I have to ask, are we as a group in any position to provide help at all, and are we willing to? I've got some latent aggression in my system this week, and while I could get some cathartic release by firing up a few shooterfests, it could be more constructive to help the group achieve something. The how is something that I have absolutely no idea for at the moment however.

My personal perimeter is safe. Rattled, but safe. I want it secured, and I want my friends secured, if there's a reasonably effective way for the group to help. I'd rather help the people I know, the people I'm loyal to rather than joining the overstaffed relief assembly lines in the big aid operations.

If we can't I'll just go back to my fragfests, donate a few cases of water to whatever dropoff point is closest, and maintain this list. Just finding out about the fate of people in the group is also good in its own right.

*shakes fist at sky*

1. I want to know how much org funds we have, and if possible, use a portion to buy necessities for those seriously hit by the storm.

2. I don't want to be selfish here, but sorry masses, i care for my friends more. Anyone who could give any spare...anything for those members hit, please do. i'm at batangas ryt (parents' orders) now and i can't do much for the org but this.

If I could suggest something, since water is the primary concern these days,
let's all chip in like P20-P50 and get a decent supply of water for them.

Aqua Safe Water = 433-9806 (near UP Diliman).

P175 for 5 bottles of water (the big ones for use in water dispensers). We
can haggle down the price if we get a lot, apparently.

Although I'm wondering about the containers. If we donate water, the
containers will probably not be returned, and that might be a problem for
the Aqua Safe people.
