A Far Cry From Peace (Sidetrek, levels 3-5, recruiting)
Time: 12-5pm, AS Hill
levels: 3-5 (negotiable)
Hiya guys, since there will be a one-week hiatus for Pyramid of Radiance, I'm running a one-shot on Monday. A Far Cry from Peace is intended as a short game in the side-trek style, with maybe 2-3 encounters tops.
Legends say that when Uriah, the First Human, betrayed his patron and consort, Destiny, she shed tears of astral fire as she lay dying. Folklore in the Mokemba valley holds that this is the source of the rich deposits of godshards in the region, which are known colloquially as the Tears of Destiny. Legend further holds that the Tears of Destiny are cursed, and the legends seem to hold true, as the rich source of godshards has brought the scourge of war to the pristine vale.
The characters are traveling to Mokemba valley, whether cashing in hard-earned loot, fleeing from troubles elsewhere, or looking for employment in this infamous conflict zone. _________________ Words are the only bullets in truth's bandolier. And poets are the snipers.

Count me in, of course. I can bring either Irvine (Level 3 Druid) or Fhrayle (Level 3 Cleric); preferably the former, but it all depends on what the party will need.
Wait for my official announcement on the Pyramid game. I'm still trying to work out a schedule, as June heralds my total inability to game with you guys. _________________ Nosfecatu Publishing |

I can play. It'll either be Da'at (Wizard) or Limerick (Rogue) both of whom are level three although I'd prefer Limerick. I'm fond of my rogues. >.>; _________________ All hail the Bongolian Ultraprawn! |

Go for Limerick, AAS. That way I can be better suited for Irvine.
So there, a striker and a controller (although I could still switch). Who else is game? _________________ Nosfecatu Publishing |

I could use...
Lucky Star - 'nother striker
Varys - me good ol' punk rawk elf defender, sans rain of blows
Strangely I thought Garvan was level 5, but he's at 6 already apparently.
Of course if other people can cover striker 2/defender, I'll probly bow out of this one. _________________ And I'm still, still longing. Still cold... so cold. |

Ooh, Varys sounds like a good fit. 'sides, a fighter with rain of blows is almost a striker 2 if you ask me. _________________ Nosfecatu Publishing |

Thunderback is good to go.
It's been a while since I've played, so I hope I could join.
Xander might be in, and possibly N-Spyr as well, since they're supposedly together forever...
3-leader party... hmmm _________________ There is happiness for those who accept their fate. There is glory for those who defy their fate

If T-back's in, then Fhrayle is definitely out. You guys will need a controller. I'm not sure if juaberman will make it, though, so Xander may be out. N-spyr, on the other hand... @_@
(Yes, I really want to play Irvine... if only because the mini that I have of him is awesome)

Varys, then. I think juaberman can make it Monday, though y'all will prolly have to hear it from him.
So that makes...
Varys - defender
Irvine - controller
Limerick - striker
Thunderback, N-Spyr, Xander - leaders
Well, this looks promising _________________ And I'm still, still longing. Still cold... so cold. |

Whaddapack? 3 leader party, eh? This should be...interesting. Plan for six players tops then.
btw, I forgot to mention it earlier, 6 players max.
Those with the funky new PHB 2 classes and Arcane or Martial Power material are reminded to bring their hardcopies of relevant material.
I'm assuming that the party is somehow working or traveling together. Recommendations as to why you people are near the Mokemba vale were given at the recruiting post.
Good luck, and I'll see you guys Monday. _________________ Words are the only bullets in truth's bandolier. And poets are the snipers.

Thread Granted
Is Mokemba valley a place where nature is tarnished by an abundance of unnatural godshards?
If so, then I would like to reinforce the fact that Irvine, who hails from the Hartland, feels a foreboding sense of familiarity with the place. And who knows? Perhaps his arcane malady (he is plagued by the Far Realm energies that inhabited the Hartland) will be cured there.
And of course, Irvine's always ready to defend nature from all things unnatural; nevermind that he's infused with unnatural energies himself.
We could assume that Thunderback went with me; but as for the rest, I'm open to suggestions. _________________ Nosfecatu Publishing |

I am a bit worried that we don't have ranged guys. @_@ Okay, so I do have capabilities in that regard, but they deal, you know, controller damage... >.>
So basically, fliers will be really irritating for us. Hope you got Magical Tratnyrs/Javelins, guys.
Three leaders! From what I hear, those tend to feel redundant, but I'll personally wait for the game before we can gauge it. _________________ Nosfecatu Publishing |

We're pretty short ranged, yeah. Limerick can also help with daggers but that's about it and I suppose she'll tag along through Xander's group because she was around last time. _________________ All hail the Bongolian Ultraprawn! |

Thunderback would have probably heard about Mokemba valley's promising story from the other Helixian(?) adventurers (the ones we met at the end of Mother Superior campaign). It's something worth having for the glory of the Helix Empire. I suppose I tag along with Irvine, seeing that he most likely have some sort of affinity with such a place (I assume we had a small talk about it).
I was sort of recommending that Fhrayle would tag along (4 LEADERS!!) but Irvine would be more needed I think. And we might some sort of argument, RP-wise, with Thunderback.
Ranged battle would be our waterloo, so we need some sort of tactics against that type of situations. Will probably bring some throwing hammers with me, just in case. My Sacred Flame is only range 5. _________________ There is happiness for those who accept their fate. There is glory for those who defy their fate

Have your characters been updated? I note that Thunderback is only at level 2, and therefore falls under the level threshold. _________________ Words are the only bullets in truth's bandolier. And poets are the snipers.

Well, roster seems full, even though any party could use a second defender.

Revan, some questions/notes:
1. Can you help me work out the details of Olwynn's personal quest on her thread?
2. Olwynn sent off her godstone shard to get the same treatment as Limerick's c/o the jewel smith refugee.
3. How does a godstone shard work as a divine implement?
4. Also, how much did I earn from the refugee quest? I didn't take any of the artifacts. So how much does my share end up? _________________ Currently Running: NOTHING

Limerick is looking for someone with a transfer enchantment ritual.
Streetwise: 1d20+8 = 21
Does she find one? And how much would it cost to have the +2 staff's enchantment transferred to her rapier? _________________ All hail the Bongolian Ultraprawn! |

Okay, as far as I can tell, we got:
*Silver Plated Longsword (N-Spyr)
*+2 Staff (Limerick)
*+2 Vicious Greatsword (Varys)
*200gp (100gp for Irvine and Olwyn, respectively)
*ADD: Each character got a Tear of Destiny (godstone worth 100gp)
From our courageous fallen dwarf comrade:
*+1 Resounding Mordenkrad (Olwyn)
*+1 Dwarven Chainmail (unclaimed)
*(x2) Potion of Healing (unclaimed)
*Ritual Book with Amanuensis, Brew Potion, Gentle Repose (Irvine)
*623gp
Suggestion for 623gp:
*A lot of people want item enchantments to be transferred. With the DM's and the party's permission, I move that we use 175gp of T-back's gold so that Irvine could acquire a Transfer Enchantment Ritual.
If you want to have the enchantment transferred after that, simply provide the mundane item and purchase 25gp of alchemical Reagents so that Irvine can work his magic.
As for the other unclaimed items, do we sell? If so, i will add that to the gold split. _________________ Nosfecatu Publishing |

Hmm. How do I get the +1 Dwarven Plate Olwynn has upgraded to either a +2 Dwarven Plate or Scale, considering that I have a +2 Razor Scale Armor with me? I'm willing to spend money for it. _________________ Currently Running: NOTHING

You can find someone who can sell or copy the transfer scroll at market price, thanks to your escorting out the refugees.
All characters who participated in the executions, etc, may begin to lean towards chaotic evil alignment if you still care about alignment. If you wish to change your alignment to chaotic evil, you may do so. However, word of such deeds will spread of course, but that's up to the next DM to factor in.
I don't know how to construct TBC's side quest yet...and I still can't imagine the moral equivalency of killing a kid and saving a puppy. And I don't want to start a comparative morality argument either. I figure any aftermath to this will be up to the next DM. EDIT: Well, I forgot, you did save a large number of refugees, including some children in that mix. I figure that puts the score at say, 5-5 tied on killed and saved.
Characters who pushed strongly for the refugee cause, (Irvine, Limerick) may, if they choose, push their alignments towards either good alignment, if you still care about such things.
Comments, feedback, etc, would be greatly appreciated. In particular, I'd like to hear what you guys had to say on the mix between fun and disturbing, as this was an experiment. Were you guys comfortable with it? Why or why not, etc? In hindsight, I should have realized that I should have asked first if it were okay with you guys to tackle that level of even hyperbolic brutality. _________________ Words are the only bullets in truth's bandolier. Suggested Loot Division for T-back's remaining stuff (don't worry, erwin, Tback was properly buried) XD
*Olwyn gets the +1 Resounding Mordenkrad, the +1 Dwarven Armor, and the two remaining potions.
*Irvine gets the Ritual Book and 112gp (think of the Ritual Book as my "keep track of loot" fee)
*everybody else gets 112gp
That's already factoring in the 175gp needed for me to master the Transfer Enchantment ritual. As thanks for the Ritual Book gratis, I'll transfer the Enchantments without extra cost; all you'll have to do is supply 25gp's worth of Alchemical Reagents.
Complaints? Or thumbs up? Otherwise let's make it official by tonight, so I can update Irvine's loot already.
**********
I think the good alignment may fit Irvine, but I'll think about it yet. He's more of a "Balance of Nature" kind of dude. XD
**********
On "disturbing": I personally didn't notice it too much. BT is a deranged, deranged world, and it's players are likewise a bit removed from moral dilemnas. Irvine himself helped the children not out of a sense for doing good, but only for ensuring that life goes on.
I guess what I'm saying is; other groups might have been a bit unhinged, but HGC boys will simply "join in on the slaughter". _________________ Nosfecatu Publishing |
