The following have been confirmed to be made into movies:
Ghost in the Shell - the rights to Ghost in the Shell has been acquired by Dreamworks. A live action movie has been slated to be made and is to be directed by Steven Spielberg
Akira - it has been confirmed that Leonardo DiCarpio will produce and star in the upcoming live action adaptation of this anime classic
Avatar - M. Night Shyamalan is writing, directing, and producing a live-action movie version of Avatar: The Last Airbender. However the "Avatar" will be drop to avoid confusion with the upcoming Jame Cameron movie
Is it just me or is there a cartoon-to-movie fad going on? |

I guess it's because they're catering to the current generation...which happened to be children during the time these d@mned 'toons came out. Kinda like a euphoria, blast-from-the-past thing.
I'd like to see Voltron or Voltes-V in live action, though...prob'ly directed by Michael Bay, too...  |

but seriously, wut the hell!? i mean can't they come up with something...anything original that they just have to murder a great/good anime/western cartoon just for the heck of it?!
i dont freaking care even if its spielberg, lucas, or shyamalan. an adaptation is an adaptation...  |

@juaberman: Hey, don't get into bashing adaptations. An adaptation can be good on its own. LotR is probably the best example. The success is yet to be seen. Yes, they have some failures, like *bleep* DnD and *bleep* Dungeon Siege. Still, there's Stuart Little, TMNT, etc.
Sticking to the issue: Cartoons, classic or ongoing, can be successfully adapted to live action movies given good production. It can be seen as an experiment, an attempt to try the limitations and reach beyond the boundaries of film making by using fantastic stories from such cartoons. It can also be a way to sell the actors and actresses in the name of the popularity of the cartoons in question. In the end, we can only judge when we've seen them. Only then can we see it as a success or a failure.
Cartoon-to-live-action adaptation is not immediately a mutilation of the cartoon, I think. |

ok, ok you got me at those examples.  mybe it isnt exactly that bad, but during these past few years its been noticable that they do an adap after adap after etc... mybe i just miss the old times where what you see on the big screen really is something (that or i watch too much turner classic movies lol) |
