|
Okay, I'm sure not everyone in the org is a Star Wars junkie like I am, but still, interesting stuff out now or coming up soon:
http://wizards.com/default.asp?x=starwars/article/sw20061214jc100
Quote: | Wizards of the Coast plans to relaunch its Star Wars Roleplaying Game line in March of 2007 with a 288-page revised core rulebook. The new book is referred to as the "Saga Edition" because it includes material from the entire Star Wars saga, including all six films. The Star Wars Roleplaying Game: Saga Edition is written by Christopher Perkins, Owen K.C. Stephens, and Rodney Thompson, and developed by Gary M. Sarli and Andy Collins, with art direction by Paul Hebron.
The Star Wars Roleplaying Game: Saga Edition presents a thorough revision of the existing rules, but it remains a d20 game. The main goal is
to make the game easier to run while improving the overall play experience. The new rulebook includes Episode III content and places greater emphasis on the use of Star Wars miniatures and battle maps. |
Woot! Rerelease of the Star Wars RPG line! Hua! Suddenly, I'm glad that someone beat me to the old copy of the Star Wars D20 book in Comic Quest.
On the miniatures end, the Bounty Hunters set releases a lot of minis from my favorite Star Wars faction: The Mandalorian Crusaders, including the huge Basilisk War Droid!
Mandalorian Blade Master
Mandalorian Warrior
Mandalore the Indomitable (Tales of the Jedi, The Sith War)
Father and Son Fett
Basilisk War Droid
I doubt there's ever going to be a sizable player population in the RP, so all I'm doing is really just ogling pictures.
Still, there is one Star Wars game I'm considering with or without players: Starship Battles, because I've always been a Sci-Fi/Wargame fanboy, and adored the original X-Wing vs. TIE-Fighter games.
Executor-class Star Destroyer
Rebel Assault Frigate
TIE Interceptor
Slave 1 (Jango Fett's color scheme)
Gah. Must force myself to have more self-control, or I'll be dragging my ass out to Greenhills to get a starter pack. _________________ Words are the only bullets in truth's bandolier. And poets are the snipers.

|
http://wizards.com/default.asp?x=starwars/article/sbgallery
Gallery of the figures released in the Core Set of Star Wars: Starship Battles.
Good thing I'm not the only gamer in my family. As soon as I mentioned Starship Battles to a cousin, he went out and bought it, and then lent it to me for a week.
So far, the game itself is pretty simple, D20 type mechanic (d20+attack modifier vs target arc's defense), and there are enough figs in the starter and booster pack for a small 200 point battle, though it would be a lot more fun with a bigger figure pool. Model quality is... ok. The Executor and Viscount are made of decently stiff plastic and look great, but the Republic Assault Ship we got was bent out of shape. Will try to do the "Hair Dryer Cure" on it some time to see if we can fix that.
Ships are divided into 4 classes:
Class 1: Huge, super-capital type flagships (ex. Executor, Viscount)
Class 2: Ships of the Line, battlecruisers (ex. Star Destroyer, Mon Cal Cruisers)
Class 3: Corvettes, Light Freighters, Shuttles (Ex. Millennium Falcon, Slave 1, Imperial Shuttle)
Class 4: Starfighters (Ex. X-Wing, TIE fighter, Jedi Interceptor, etc.)
Each ship can move a number of spaces equal to its class #. Class 1,2&3 ships have to indicate facing for weapon and armor purposes, doesn't matter for starfighters. Each side deploys its ships on one side of the map, then launches fighters from its capital ships. So far, basic rules are just big slugfests, but the use of commander abilities in advanced mode add a little subtlety.
As for shooting, Class 1-3 ships can shoot each other at any range, while Class 4 ships can only shoot (and be shot by) adjacent ships, making them ideal for sneaky bombing runs on enemy capital ships. The game though, appears to really be won by capital ships, as the fleet that can smash the other side's flagships gains a fairly decisive advantage. As for fighters, Rebellion fighters have an edge on the Imperial units, but the basic TIE fighter counters this by being Infinite (If this fighter is destroyed, return it to the fighter pool instead of removing it from the game, so you can spawn it again from a carrier). Class 1-2 ships will focus on slugging it out against each other, while Class 3 ships sweep the skies of fighters, and Class 4 ships either work as anti-fighter units, or make bombing runs on command ships.
I'll haul the game along this week so you can check it out. _________________ Words are the only bullets in truth's bandolier. And poets are the snipers.

Yup. A lot of the further adventures of the Skywalker/Organa/Solo bunch are covered in the books and comics.
Highlights:
Roughly chronological post Endor:
-The Rogue Squadron series (Michael Stackpole): The Rebellion's crack squadron becomes instrumental in the capture of Imperial Center/Coruscant.
-Dark Empire (Dark Horse): Emperor Palpatine is resurrected in a clone body and launches a counter-offensive that recaptures Imperial Center and almost decapitates the Rebellion. Luke Skywalker falls to the dark side and becomes Palpatine's apprentice, before being redeemed by Leia. Palpatine and his flagship are then destroyed by the siblings.
-The Thrawn Cycle (Timothy Zahn): The first of the official extensions of the series. The super genius Grand Admiral Thrawn and the mad Jedi Joruus C'baoth ally together, and almost bring down the New Republic. Luke Skywalker meets Mara Jade, the Emperor's personal assassin. Han and Leia have twins: Jacen and Jaina Organa Solo.
-Dark Empire 2: Palpatine escapes to another clone body and tries to assassinate or corrupt Luke. Luke finds Jedi relics on the ruined world of Ossus, which he can use to found the New Jedi Order. Leia gives birth to Anakin Solo. Palpatine is finally destroyed.
-The Jedi Academy Trilogy (Kevin J Anderson): Luke Skywalker opens the Jedi Praxeum on Yavin 4 as he begins to expand the New Jedi Order. Big mistake. The Force Ghost of Sith Lord Exar Kun begins to corrupt students before being destroyed by the entire Jedi Academy.
-The New Jedi Order series: Luke Skywalker marries Mara Jade. The Yuuzhan Vong invasion begins. Chewbacca is slain at Serndipal(?). Boba Fett reforms the Mandalorian Protectors. Anakin Solo is slain by the Yuuzhan Vong. Jacen Solo begins to slide towards the dark side. Jaina Solo grows attracted to the Imperial pilot Roan Fel, possibly marrying the future Emperor. The strife-riven New Republic falls. The Galactic Alliance rises to take its place, and allies with the Imperial Remnant to defeat the Yuuzhan Vong. Mara Jade Skywalker gives birth to Ben Skywalker. (Major changes to the Star Wars galaxy)
-Legacy of the Force series (in progress): Jacen Solo falls to the dark side, becomes the next Dark Lord of the Sith. Possible final confrontation with Luke in the works, with Jacen implied as being the stronger of the two. _________________ Words are the only bullets in truth's bandolier. And poets are the snipers.

we never started a campaign in star wars hehehe that was because of the large rip off by a store in one of the famous malls in our country hehehe. I'd really love to play a jedi guardian/jedi weapon master. Using a form 3 stance and a double light saber. _________________ Only by confronting your darkest fears can you find the light...

I finally have a hard copy of Saga Edition! SAGA EDITION!
I'm trying to learn the rules as fast as I can. If this is a preview of D&D 4E, I'm very intrigued. I'll see if I can be ready to run a game by the end of the month.
EDIT: I'm looking at three possible timelines for a campaign:
1. Rise of the Empire/Rebel Dawn: Shortly after the Clone Wars, Palpatine begins implementing the New Order. Many reforms are made, but the foundations of the Imperial military machine are also laid down. (Restriction: Jedi are very much a hunted minority, as the Jedi Purge is still ongoing.)
2. Legacy of the Force: 100 years after the Saga movies, a resurgent Empire has beaten the Galactic Alliance into submission, only to be overthrown in turn by the Sith Order. Darth Krayt overthrows Emperor Roan Fel and declares himself Emperor. With the Jedi Academies destroyed and the Alliance on the run, only the deposed Emperor has the power to unite the galaxy against the Sith.
3. The Mandalorian Wars: A prequel to the Knights of the Old Republic computer RPGs. 4000 years before the movies, the Republic is under siege by the most ruthless warriors in the galaxy: The Mandalorian Crusaders. With the Republic in disarray and the Jedi Council debating their response to the Mandalorian Crusade, a band of young Jedi Knights will make a decision that will change the course of galactic history. Jedi characters are highly encouraged in this setting. _________________ Words are the only bullets in truth's bandolier. And poets are the snipers.

I like #2 best.
Am personally interested with RPing someone who's naturally gifted with the Force, but has never received any formal training with either jedi, Imperial or Sith, I so like the Legacy bacause (correct me if I'm wrong) there are now three lightsaber toting factions. _________________ Nosfecatu Publishing |

Yup. There are the Jedi remnant, the Sith Order, and Roan Fel's own Imperial Knights, Jedi-trained Force users whose loyalties lie to the Empire first, and to the Force second.
Note that there are also numerous non-Jedi based Force traditions such as the Jensaarai protectors, who walk a balance between Light and Dark, the Force Witches of Dathomir, a matriarchy whose mastery of the Force has allowed them to gain control of their planet, the Baran-Do seers, and many more. In many cases, these Force users can be simulated with the Jedi class, removing the Lightsaber Combat talents for a few tradition-based talents in the book.
Also, it is also very possible to run a character that is not a member of the Jedi character class and still be a Force-user, by taking the Force Sensitivity and Force Powers feats. Wisdom determines number of powers gained per instance of Force Power feat, and Charisma determines modifier to the Use the Force skill. As an example, the Dark Side Marauder NPC template is a member of the Soldier class with the Force Sensitivity and Force Training feats. _________________ Words are the only bullets in truth's bandolier. Okay, I'm feeling confident enough about my grasp of Saga Edition rules to start thinking about setting up an introductory campaign for SWSE.
-Is anyone interested in playing Star Wars Saga Edition?
-Are you guys good with Wedensday mornings, or Tuesday/Friday mornings? 9-12?
-Campaign timeline? (Knights of the Old Republic, Rise of the Empire, Legacy of the Force)
Introductory party of 4 players minimum, and 5 max. We only have one copy of the rules, so we're all learning as we go. _________________ Words are the only bullets in truth's bandolier. And poets are the snipers.

Guys, come on, is anyone else interested? Right now, we have a 3-player lineup, and I'm looking for a full 4-5 player party.
Current lineup is BJ, Mark Derpo, and Jaykie. Timeslot is 9-1230 Wed. _________________ Words are the only bullets in truth's bandolier. And poets are the snipers.
