Yeah, I haven't played in a while so I want to keep up to speed. What splats are due to be released and what's the current hype in the D&D community?

Nothing much really, since it's been a while since someone hosted a campaign.

Probably you'll have interest in the Assassin, shadow striker (there's a thread for it)
Divine Power (aka Paladin Power Book) isn't much, nothing extremely good/hax about it, other than the new paladin powers, and pacifist cleric.

Primal Power is coming, it has Swarm Druid!! (when u polymorph, you could choose to be a form of swarm of rats/insects/any Tiny natural creatures.) And you're a swarm, meaning you take reduced damaged (equal to Con) against melee and ranged attacks! Powers concentrates on bursts. Looking 4ward on it.

DMG2 was suppose to come, but they had problems.

Other than that are Dragon Mag new stuff, like Githzerai. Little knowledge about it.

DMG2 has come; it's just not in the Philippines yet. It has rules for chandeliers as an obstacle (yes, you heard me right; chandeliers!), companion characters aka cohorts (gonna use that for ereth's unicorn), and lots of advice for DM's. I am yet to see it, though, so I can't comment on whether it's good or bad yet.

I posted my thoughts on the assassin here.

PHB3 is looking more and more promising. We already know about the psion, monk, and hybrid classes. In addition, skill powers will make an appearance. They are essentially utility powers that you can take in place of a class skill as long as you have training in that skill. Lots of good ones there. Also, the seeker class debuts at ddi this month:

The next class from Player's Handbook 3 is here, exclusively on D&D Insider! Learn about the seeker, an archer who controls the battlefield through the mystical powers granted by her connection to the divine.

I'm guessing it's a divine class. Laughing

Oh, and the Old Man with the Canaries is a level 36 solo soldier.

Oh I thought Old Man was a Solo Leader. Or is that a different version of him?
I recall seeing the solo leader in the preview of Draconomicon 2.

Leader is a keyword that can be applied to a monster of any role that has powers supporting a team. You can have a Controller (leader), a Brute (leader), etc.

Oh right. I forgot, sorry. Must be the fact I haven't played D&D for a while. Laughing
I just remembered him being a leader. I forgot its main role.

I saw the seeker; apparently, it's a primal controller. @__@

It basically imbues its projectiles with spirits, which assaults its foes over a burst. Imagine the long range of a bow, and then at will bursts.
