So...yeah. Our org's gonna be hosting a talk/discussion on literariness in video games (I personally would've wanted to throw in more CRPG's like PS:T and KOTOR, but we've less people in our ExeCom who've played that stuff; I do expect Fallout 3 to be mentioned, though), and the event's actually very much open to anyone interested -- whether or not they're LitSoc members, or based in Ateneo.

Date: Jan. 30, 2009
Time: 5:00-6:30 PM
Location: SOM 105 classroom

Anyone interested and/or needing directions to the SOM building, post here. Very Happy

Actually sounds pretty interesting. Love allusions in games, but I'm 3 or 4 years out of date in PC rpgs.

How to get there, and how's access for non-AdMU students? Given how buildings have mushroomed up in the AdMU campus since I left, I'd be pretty damned lost.

Disclaimer: I have about as much navigational skill as a kobold, so if the following directions are a bit...iffy I'll ask one of my officers to write up better directions. Laughing

It's easiest to get to SOM from Gate 2. Go into the first entrance to the parking lot past the guard (or second, if you consider the path at the guard the "first"), and keep going straight past that to this place with food stalls labeled JGSOM SEC (or something like that -- they used to just call it SOM Mall when we were younger, now the dean of Management's going all trippy). Past that (and past a roadblock) is the SOM building -- simplest description I can give is that it's the one closest to the smoking area, and the easy landmark is the photocopier right at the entrance (the opposite building with the vending machines is CTC). SOM 105's one of the ground floor classrooms.

Nowadays they actually check for I.D. at the gates. I think non-AdMU students/staff actually have to write their names in a logbook now; I dunno if it involves getting a visitor's pass as well.

Parking's gotten stricter now as well. A friend of mine once got smacked with an Illegally Parked sticker just for leaving his car in the grade school for an hour or two. I'll ask around regarding where visitors have to park, and I'll update the directions in this theead if there's a specific place for that.[/i]

Hey, don't diss the kobolds man. You'd need some really kick-ass navigation skills to move around in a dark sunless cave honeycombed with traps and secret passages. Razz

I'll see. Here's hoping workload isn't too heavy next week.

So how did it go, Hamster Friend? Apologies for not being able to come; Hassles at work and all.

By the way, what's the name of your org? Do you have a website?

Unfortunately I wasn't able to show up due to a bad case of diarrhea. (In fact, I'd like to warn anyone living in the Marikina area to watch their tap water these days; it's looking like we might have an almost-epidemic on our hands, according to the doc.) Carl and some others were able to go, though.

We're the Ateneo Literary Society, usually abbreviated to LitSoc (since we're unaccredited, and technically can't use the school's name when we're doing business off-campus Laughing ). We've a Multiply, our own forums and an LJ as well as an e-group.

The Multiply gets updates every now and then, whenever our org has an event. The forums hardly have any traffic (but please feel free to invade and remedy our low post count Twisted Evil ). The LJ's practically dead (but I hope to remedy that), and our e-group gets updates every now and then before we're about to do something.

Cool! I'm in the process of building up links for UP HGC as well, and I'm thinking of including LitSoc as an affiliate (with your permission, of course). I'll make a backlink to your Multiply, and I'll give a brief description of your group. The list of affiliates has the heading, "Geeks in other parts of Metro Manila" (or something like that). Very Happy

If you're interested, please PM me a 3-8 sentence paragraph describing LitSoc. Smile
