Hail the greatest adaptation of the Dungeons & Dragons system into computer gaming! Yes, it's a bit old, what with it using the AD&D system, but it's the closest to the real thing as can be. I'm yet to play NWN2, but the reviews are in favor of NWN1 and all its expansion sets.

Care to share your experiences? Builds? Concepts? Complaints?

One of my fave NWN builds would be the Paladin/Weapon Master/Champion of Torm. With the Divine Might feat and the Divine Wrath ability, this Pally can deal a ton of damage - that's not mentioning the criticals from a keen scythe (with its increased threat range due to the Improved Critical feat and the Weapon Master's improved critical ability).

The other would be the Cleric. What can I say? I'm weird! Cleric is more than enough power for everyone, and with the many undead in the NWN, it's tough to beat. Also, I'm having high ACs with my buff spells (with durations of 1 hr/lvl as per AD&D config) and hitting well with a lot of damage with a non-magical morningstar (buffed to capacity with tons of spells, of course!).

NWN2 is fun, but I can never get too far in it. I always just feel like trying new characters each time. currently i'm working on a human WM. doing okay right now i suppose. much much better than my half-elf assassin, which was a total waste of time >< hell i liked my LA +2 drow wizard better than my assassin, although warlock is kinda fun too XD

I dunno how it works in NWN2, but I rather liked my Halfling Rogue/Assassin/Shadowdancer from NWN1. Springing Death Attack from the shadows FTW!!

I had only one real simple build for NWN 1:

Fighter, then take Weapon Master as soon as possible, progress down the 2-Weapon Feats path, and pack two bastard swords, just basically ignoring the extra penalties in favor of massive damage and weapon master criticals. Return to the fighter at around level 15-16, and then resume weapon master at epic.

I'm more a fan of frequent criticals threats rather than a few devastating crits, which is why I opted for the bastard sword rather than the scythe's x4 or the axe's x3. I never really had the inclination to learn the spell casting system, though building a sneaky rogue sounds nice. The thing is, I tend to rely heavily on my henchmen/henchwomen, especially in Shadows of Undrentide and Hordes of the Underdark.

Massive Powertrip: When preparing to face Mephistopheles in the finale of Hordes, I uber-tweaked my character's weapons to pack every enchantment I could manage from Rizolvir. +10 flaming acid keen bloodthirsty bastard sword of haste. The other was +10 cold, shocking, keen, holy, bastard sword of true sight that emitted light in a 30' radius. I'm sure I'm forgetting a lot more in that weapon loadout.

Has anyone here played NWN's Kingmaker expansion? I've seen it, but never tried it.

I think Kingmaker is a mod, not a real expansion pack. Basically, someone got industrious enough to invent an adventure from scratch using the Aurora Toolset.

Yeah, I also did the Fighter/Weapon Master build, but I felt it was too linear by the time I got to Shadows of Undrentide. It was really just hack-and-slash.

I've also been playing NWN Online via Gamespy, and there is just a cool teamplay map over there that's similar to DotA (in fact, I think it was fashioned to simulate that Warcraft map). Two boss dragons, two teams. First team to kill the other team's dragon wins. It was really fun. I tried my hand there with a straight Cleric (Travel and War domains). No physical attack could hit me (my pre-epic AC hit 62, at epic it rose even higher) and I could withstand a TON of damage. Bad side was I couldn't do as much damage as the Paladin or the Wiz/Sor. I practically played an indestructible box of Band-Aids that could crush any foe who dared come within melee range (I had a crazy melee attack roll and damage potential).

Dwarves make the best rogues in NWN. You know it, in your heart of hearts, to be the truth.

Dwarves actually fit the role, as trapfinders i mean.

I dunno, a "Black Blade of Moradin" sounds pretty sexy. And besides, dwarves are pragmatic and resourceful little buggers--they won't be springing traps on their own. No, that'd be too risky.

They'll probably just kick in some unlucky sod they gutted towards the general direction of those traps.

I'd rather have a dwarf barbarian than a rogue. Laughing

Already did that. Very Happy
But I'd rather see a dwarven rogue. It's knowledge on dungeoneering will be most helpful on dungeon crawls (duh?). And in case he fails to disable that trap and instead trigger it, he'll live! Laughing

Don't expect him/her to talk your way out of an encounter though Razz

It actually depends on which type of trap he springs. Laughing
