question, can't we seek out other magi and try to learn (or buy?) rotes from them? i was getting depressed about thinking of how long it's going to take to increase the dots on my arcana. is there any other way?

Well, unfortunately, that's pretty much it, barring Storyteller's discretion to supply bonus dots. Offhand, the best way is just to roleplay your characters well, which most STs, including BJ, would reward with an extra XP point or two. It'll really take a while to build up your Arcanum, so patience is the key. An alternative if you do a lot of improvised magic is to upgrade your Gnosis.

as I recall from M:tA, you actually have to do this stuff before you spend exp to raise your arcana. so, yeah...

rotes are different from arcana by the way. rotes are memorized specific spells, arcana are the schools of magic you learn from so to speak.

anyway, it's storyteller's fiat as usual. but generally the only way to raise arcana is by good old exp expenditure.

hm.. how do you do that? improve gnosis?
and yeah, i know what the diff between rotes and arcana. it's just that, i'd rather spend my... to-be-gained xp (^_^) on improving my arcana dots (tama bang tawagin yon ng ganun?) than on getting singular rotes.
