Yeah, so I'm just starting to get into the whole Magic craze myself (as I'm sure everyone else once did) and I would basically like to know how to build my deck. What color is easily best for beginners, what cards are for beginner material, what cards NOT to put in and all that jazz. I don't want to go and buy a deck just yet; prices are pretty nasty and it's pretty useless if I don't know what I'm going to do the cards I buy. 0.o

Gaming tips are also appreciated. Basic rundowns of strategies might also be helpful. Feel free to release the tutor in you.

I'm not winning much with it yet though, and since people tell me that it's a strong deck, it's kinda funny.

For beginners, I would suggest buying a pre-constructed deck. Although it might not win you games, it will let you get a hang of the gameplay and rules (there are a lot of them, but you'll only need to actually know the basics of the basics).

If you think that you're ready for more advanced card-gaming (combos, power cards, board control etc.) then you can ask a friend in the know to help you buy stuff. I strongly suggest bringing a friend with you when buying cards so as to prevent buying cards over-priced.

(Pardon me if these are the only things I can recommend, but as the late Ernie Baron said "Knowledge is power, BABAAAAY!")

Play blue...you'll lose a lot but learn faster. And I suggest that if you're buying precons, don't buy the recent ones. They won't be standard but it won't matter if you have no immediate plans of competing. The thing with the recent ones is that they're only 40 cards and kind of sucky. The older ones have a full 60 card deck. They're subpar as far as power is concerned, sure, but it's a good base to start on.

Experience is the best teacher and hangout with the competetive players. As a beginner you should use various kinds of deck until you find one that fits your style - deck personality they say - .

What kind of deck you enjoy? combo deck? beatdown? control?

Actually, I wouldn't recommend you buying a precon. You'll get more bang for your buck if you just build a deck yourself. I remember building a casual-worthy deck for around PhP 100 that can handily beat precons.

Gaming stores I'd recommend are Filbar's and Comic Quest in SM North. Try limiting yourself to buying commons and uncommons under PhP 10 at first. In general, ask around the tambayan for the correct prices.

As Xtian said, just play around. Try building some mono-coloured decks so you can get the feel of each color's playstyle and then choose which one suits you.
