I'm in; I'm entering Ereth Aurs'hilk as the first defender. We will probably need a second defender if there be level3 characters in the party. My defenses will only boost come level 3 above.

So I take it to mean you're in? A bit slow on the uptake right now, working on 2 stories. So we've got a lev 3 controller, a lev 1 defender, and with oghma in, a lev 3 striker. Good balance so far, now somebody get a healer.

BJ Edit: Fixed RL name

Tossing in Sevens for Revan's campaign.

BJ Edit: You are reminded that using RL names for members of the boards is a violation of our ORGASM.

XP gain for the 1 Aug 08 game:

Level 1 characters: 1222 xp
Level 3 characters: 815 xp

Loot for the 1 Aug 08 game

(cave)
-4 wolf pelts worth 20 gp each

(bandit camp)
-1 undetermined level 3 magic item (I'd intended this item for the_bumper_car's paladin, but since he couldn't make it, no dice. @Quickbrownfox: If you can suggest a L3 item here, you can have it.)
-+2 Scale Armor
-60 gp and 1 potion of healing
-Rare books worth roughly 75 gp.
-225 gp in semiprecious stones.

I'm assuming that the stuff here in your character sheets already reflects your level-up. If you have an undetermined feat and or utility power, please define it by Sunday evening so I can post them up.

As a final note, a little feedback would be appreciated. It's been something like a year since I last DM'd a game, and I'm wondering how you found the game and the encoounter mix. Also, on flavor notes and mechanics, how did you like the "sunstorm" skill challenge?

The "sunstorm" was a nice little diversion from the ever so usual field marching random encounters. Also, a little terrain mucking does wonders to the encounter. It was fun seeing enemy creeps getting worldspawned. Laughing

Hopefully, the daystar wouldn't be that active in the future. It was hella scary if the save was failed.

-1 undetermined level 3 magic item

Call me a party-pooper, but you declared it as a magical throwing hammer. Very Happy I see no reason to deus ex it, we could always just sell (though Ereth might see some use for it).

If the DM insists, though, a Light (for either Jolner or Olwyn) Shield of Protection will no doubt see a lot of use. EDIT: I consulted qbf, and he agrees.

Proposed Loot distribution (assuming level3 is for Jolner)

*Ereth gets the +2 Scale Mail
*Ultrafagnus gets the 75gp rare books
*Jolner gets the level 3 item plus 25gp in semi-precious stones
*Yevor gets the potion of healing and 100gp of semi-precious stones
*Sevens gets 60gp plus 100gp in semi-precious stones

Do you guys agree with this?

Consider it Deus exed. Carl wasn't around, the creep who should have been using the hammer against you guys was removed to reduce threat, and the other party members need the help. I don't intend to do this much, but for now, it's been ex machina-d.

I believe this is enough to finalize the loot distribution, Rev. Jolner gets the Light Shield of Protection, I take it.

Best edit the sheets soon. Cool

Tech Team: We will revise the way we update our sheets online.

*The DM simply holds the responsibility of keeping the sheets, not uploading them. That is the job of each individual player. Revan already posted the xp, and I am giving everyone until Wednesday night to update their sheets. Remember, if there are inconsistencies between the RL sheet and the online sheet, the online sheet takes precedence. So to those who increased in level, do them ASAP.

*Updating the Cast of Characters thread is still the sole responsibility of the tech team. So Revan, don't bother editing them anymore (to that effect, please refrain from assuming responsibility in the future if you believe you will fail to deliver).

*@quickbrownfox: You told me last Friday that you redesigned Jolner. You are given until Wednesday night to post the updated version (plus xp). I will copy whatever version is posted here on Thursday on a character sheet; you will use that version on Friday.

PM me for questions.

Revan from the Rant thread wrote:
-1300-1600H Fumble my way through another half-assed D&D game that suffers immensely from lack of sleep, coordination, preparation, focus, and time.

In your defense, it wasn't half bad. I like how you handle combats in a tavern/warehouse; in my opinion you do that better than anyone I've played under. That said, I do have suggestions on where to improve.

#1) Skill Challenges. One of the things I noticed about skill challenges is that not everybody gets into it. Usually, this is because of the lack of ways for some of the more unskilled characters to contribute properly. At the very least, Skill Challenges are now low DC enough that I'm not afraid to use untrained skills. We do have room for three failures, and we do gain xp either way.
Ex. Ereth had a hard time thinking of an appropriate skill for the guards. For the life of her, she has Cha8. Laughing But I kept bluffing the them just the same.
So, the suggestions here are twofold:
*To the DM, try to look at your players skills, and design a challenge in such a way that every player can contribute. Have a "Failure" preset in mind that makes the game more interesting. Note how I used "more interesting" instead of "harder" (although by no means are the two mutually exclusive). That way, characters won't be afraid to try skills that they are not good at.
*To the players, don't be afraid to use low-modifier skills! In the same way that a staffizard will make an OA even though his damage output isn't so high, it's okay to botch skill challenges. You don't die from them if you fail, you just get minor complications. Also, don't say, "Don't use that skill!" to your partymates. The threat of failure makes it fun.

#2) Skill challenges again. I've noticed that consecutive skill challenges make the game a bit dragging. We should probbably avoid this. Skill Challenge, Combat, Combat, Skill Challenge, Combat is the ideal way to get through a session, I think. Err in favor of more combats versus more skill challenges; while better at roleplay than the previous editions, DnD is still fundamentally a combat-oriented RPG.

#3) Limbo. Again, in your defense, you do have it short-stacked by having a class just before the game. As a DM, if I take a breather before the game starts, I DM more properly. Still, we should get to start by 1:30. Perhaps get something to eat on the way to, rather than when you get to, the tambayan? I'll take the lead into ensuring that no one distracts you while you eat.

#4) Prep time. I don't know this will probably sound cliche, but not cramming for your DM stuff (ie, preparing for it 3 days before at most) means you have more time to skim your finished material to get a good feel for the expected flow of the game. Blow-by-blows become easier to depict, and enemy tactics are taken to heart.

Otherwise, the game is really good. Combats are a lot faster now than when I was running K'maht. I suppose that has something to do with players now used to what they should do in combat. The eladrin were a nice touch; teleport robbers suck. (Although on a DM-to-DM note, make sure they are at most 4 squares from the wall if you plan on them to tele out; Wink)

Explosives trap was a Lev 3 monster. The damage output i'd planned was around lev 4, but I realized that it's contingent on one of the creeps taking an action out and triggering it manually. So that's 150 xp, just split it 6 ways as usual.

Well, I had a dynamic skill challenge plotted for the hot pursuit of the eladrin on the rooftops, but...you didn't go for a hot pursuit, which was sort of unfortunate, as I really wanted to see what a rooftop combat would look like. Multiple roof levels, 10-20 foot drops, and athletics checks to jump around between adjoining roofs. Maybe some other time. Razz

EDIT: That's +30XP, or +37XP to level 3, or +45XP for level 2. Reflect that on your online sheets please. Master sheets are updated.

Oh yegods, yeah, about that. You guys got a lot of gear from the goblin camp, so you're actually a bit ahead. That said, the main item of loot was with the Fey Knight, and he got away. Don't worry, you'll get another crack at him. As for the Vulgar Unicorn's small repository of items, let me get back to you guys on that.

By the way, offhand objectives for this week's game:

Main:
1. Get out of Traitor's Gate with Clank and the godstone shard.
2. -Riots in Traitor's Gate: The incendiary speeches outside the Vulgar Unicorn have erupted into widespread rioting between Liberators and Redeemers within Traitor's Gate. Lord Skar has ordered the city sealed until order is restored. The players can either try to fight their way out, sneak out, or somehow assist in restoring order to the city.

Side:
-Rage of the Rat Kings: The party has been quite efficient in taking on the wererat thieves that the eladrin hired. The party may want to watch out.
-Striking from Shadows: The party has no idea why the eladrin are striking at Clank, and what they or the kobold intend to do with the stone. Perhaps finding out more might be useful.
-At the Sign of the Vulgar Unicorn: Many travelers and bystanders were trapped inside the Unicorn during the riots. An elderly hunchbacked man and his wife are seeking assistance to return to their homes.

(If you guys are interested in any of the side quests, just post which ones you might want to explore, so I can detail the NPCs and locations.)

The sooner we could get out of Traitor's Gate the sooner we get paid. Riot police doesn't sound so bad. Laughing
