BJ is really having his Starcraft tantrums. Beware... BEWAAAARRRREEE!!!

I personally don't want to play Starcraft because back when it was hot, I found the game cold and hostile. I never found the enthusiasm to at least be good with it. So next time, don't expect me to be one of the Starcraft players. I don't have love for it. I just think it's cool. Wink

I don't agree with those laws. I mean, DMs need to embellish every so often, what's wrong with that? As long as he doesn't do so excessively then I, as a player, wouldn't complain.

Fundamental paradigm there appears to be gamist/simulationist, ignoring the narrativist license that the GM may have to intervene for "the good of the story" (assuming that the intent of the GM is to create a fun game/story experience for all).

Remember, the game is not "Players vs. Sneaky, Conniving, *bleep* *bleep* *bleep* *bleep* GM." Ideally, the GM's job is to make sure that the experience and the game is fun for all concerned.

And from a GM's perspective, the GM needs to have fun at the same time. The worst of my GM abuses have come during the times when the game just wasn't fun anymore.

DM's may fudge with the rules, if it ultimately makes the game more fun. Now, if the DM makes a character fail a saving throw VS Divert Teleport after rolling a 51, while protected under the effects of AM field, then subsequently get attacked by a supernatural ability while still under the effect of same AM field, killing all members of the party intentionally, then that's wrong. Razz

Does the DM have the right to fudge with the rules? It's not a right; it's a responsibility. Sometimes, sticking to the rules by the letter reduces enjoyment of the game. And if you're not enjoying it, then what's the point? That's why a DM is permitted to make up rules in game rather than consulting DMG; too much rules-lawyering make the game feel like work.
