Welcome to Ender.
Towering buildings loom at every town, sunlight barely reaching the ground because of its air, contaminated by smoke from its factories, and spell residue from mages and clerics who desperately try to save the town daily from hunger and disease.
A world where magic and technology have advanced to lengths greater than expected. So great, in fact, that they are blind as to what great price was paid.
This world's achievements have come at a great cost: The death of the primal spirits. The earth is now covered with decaying plants and polluted seas, wherein only a few of the most vicious creatures survive. It was all due to experimentation by mages for the "greater good", greed for its resources, stripping down the land bare, and constant conflict of the four great nations: Cyndale, Tombstar, Reveria, and Atlus. Even now these nations still fight each other, for pride and resources.
As to what they have achieved there can be no doubt. Mages can provide a continuous food supply via manipulation of what was left of nature. Airships and autocarts are the bridges that link one miserable town to another. And various war engines roar alongside the Soulforged: sentient contructs are placed with willing, or unwilling souls, controlled through arcane means, and the newest kind of ammunition: gun powder.
In these wretched times, only a few become adventurers, seeking treasure, excitement, of the rarest of them all: answers. Only a few tried to question why the world still suffers if we have already come so far, as some of them immediately vanish, never to be seen. Only a few dared to find rare artifacts, hidden away in caves and mountains, surrounded by hostile beasts and entities. Only a few yearn for something more, something beyond the borders of civilisation
You are one of those few.
This is a campaign setting I created. Think of it as dystopian steampunk. Dark Sun + Eberron - Primal is also a good way to define it
This 1st sem, AY10-11, I'll be running a campaign based on this setting.
When? I'm still thinking about it, whether it'll be a Saturday game or Weekday game.
Level? starts at 9. I'm hoping to run this the whole sem so i don't know what level it'll end
Players? 4-5
Characters? I want to make it the founding story of this setting, so it's either pre-generated, your own, or a combination of both The only limit is that the Primal power source is banned. Everything else is fair game.
Any thoughts, suggestions would be welcome. _________________ Let me tell you a story. But instead of "Once upon a time", let me start with the happy ending. |

Alara Vulshok, Tiefling Battlemind
Perfect.
The most beautiful word that has ever escaped these sumptuous lips of mine. I like the word better when it describes about me, which I am, of course. However, I am not like those lazy b****es who sit on their asses, drowning themselves to luxury and vanity. Oh no, my perfection is more complete.
The Way of the Mind lets me achieve this completeness. It is the perfect art, fitting for someone such as I. And though constant training might be good, true perfection demands growth, and there is only one way to do it in this imperfect world: to venture out, and reach the peak of my potential. I know someday, perfect becomes me. _________________ Let me tell you a story. But instead of "Once upon a time", let me start with the happy ending. |

Yelena Sparrow, Elf Avenger of The Hushed Lady
By prayer or slaughter, Her will be done
I've never been so proud when I was chosen for this sacred task. As a devout member of the clergy, it is my sworn duty to secure the safety of knowledge and to ensure that the unchosen ones only know what they need to know. Abandoned as an infant, I owe my life to The Hushed Lady, and I must do all for her will to be done.
An powerful artifact, said by the Bishop to have the ability to infect weak minds, has said to have awakened in a cave near our beloved town, and it's our job to eliminate it. There's no knowledge need to be gained from such evil.
Accompanied by Brother Brickon, a man of questionable zeal, we will first gain supplies required for our journey. Mercenaries as well, for if ever the artifact fights back, their sacrifice would be for Her and Her will. _________________ Let me tell you a story. Nobody can hide forever.
Stepping off the airship, I have finally arrived in Marik, the River City. It's finally good to breathe some civilized air. Cleaner? Not much, but it's more... familiar.Quickly getting my things I immediately start heading my way towards the town proper, focused on the one thing that led me here: The mass-murderer Scathach Edolon.
As to why he ended up here, I do not know, nor do I care. I do know, however, that the mayor of Namilid has turned a blind eye on this case, stating that now that he's gone, it not his problem anymore.
What he has done is unforgivable. The souls of my family, my friends, will never rest until I put this blade straight into his heart. _________________ Let me tell you a story. But instead of "Once upon a time", let me start with the happy ending. |

Kane Garcher, Halfing Rogue
I'm Kane Garcher you runt!
I stare out my window, hearing the pitter-patter of the rain. I hold the pistol in my right hand and my cigar in the other. Nothing relaxes me better than holding drugs and violence. I watch as I see the reflection of a door opening, and entering that door is a young female half-elf, wearing a red dress that doesn't seem to suit this rainy day. Too tall for my type, but one must appreciate an exotic beauty such as her.
She introduces herself as a Maria Silviana, and she tells me that I am the best Private Inquisitor there is. That is true, of course, but I try to be modest about it, and I can that she totally eats up the act. She then immediately gets to business: She wants me to investigate a couple of members from the Church of The Hushed Lady, to see what they've been up to. I ask no further about why she wanted it investigated, that's not part of the job. She gives me 20 gold coins right in the spot and promises to give me 30 more once I gathered enough information. As she leaves, I look at the names and sketches of the two I'm supposed in investigate: Brickon Stormshatter and Yelena Sparrow _________________ Let me tell you a story. But instead of "Once upon a time", let me start with the happy ending. |

I'd be up for joining this, I think, as long as it's on weekdays.
However, I feel like I've been hogging a lot of RP spots lately, so uh, put me on... the waiting list, I guess? :B I'd like someone else who might not have had a chance to RP as much get priority over me, in this case. |

that's alright. if you want to stick with the original flavor. he's basically your fantasy version of "trench-coat detective"

sure, but PM to me the char concept first.

Well then we have 4 players already, so i'll start listing the details.
starting level: 9
i want players (especially the veterans) to finally feel paragon tier, but i don't want to immediately start the game from there.
custom character building:
as you can see, much of the setting is still blank, so i'm dedicating this whole month to make a more solid description of the place. on that note, if there is anyone who wishes to help me build this world please send me a pm.
custom or pre-gen, i want the players to PM me the characters they want to play. for custom made ones send me a back story, and i'll help make it more suitable for the setting.
UPDATES!!

They're just military weapons? awesome!
i though i'd have to get a feat to use it
but i think you should put a Load Minor there somewhere, and have magazine or something like that, unless it's more like a revolver (for the smaller gun)
I'd be glad to help build up the setting. I'll PM you once I get some sort of idea, as I am sort of busy these days. _________________ There is happiness for those who accept their fate. There is glory for those who defy their fate

by the way guys, just so we're clear, i'm already getting the STRIKER role, aka somebody get the others (I'm looking at you Infinity_Zero), though I don't mind a missing role or two. I just don't want to end up like a certain group of adventurers who ended up have only 2 roles. not that it was all bad _________________ There is happiness for those who accept their fate. Well yah I just thought the rogue will go to waste if I don't use it but I'm already dissuaded ( by Erwin) to use it. I'm just fixing it as a LV 4 char where I left it at b_b 's campaign. And I'm fine with the remaining roles |

I will point out that we technically had a 100% survival rate (our only casualty was written in after the campaign itself) despite all the craziness thrown our way...

Oh and a question: If I will use a Spiked Shield even though I'm not proficient with it, will I lose both the attack bonus and the armor bonus or just one? I hate to spend a feat just to qualify for a magic item just beacause I don't want to use heavy shields |

@d_a: i think this is gonna be next sem, so it's quite unsure whether weekdays or weekends. Hopefully you could join
@infi-zero: I can't believe we have the same AC O_O
as for spiked shield, if you're proficient with light shields (w/c you are), you get the AC bonus. As for the weapon prof bonus, you have to get superior weapon training.
btw, indicate on your attacks what type it is, whether melee, range, close burst, etc. Not that I'm requiring you, it'll look a lot neater and understandable that way. and my former job as Tech Team in BT has given me the urge to nag about it
and also, you can't have both diabolic transformation AND mantle of misfortune. they both replace the infernal wrath power, they're not additional powers.
@juabe: are we allowed to buy masterwork armors? at what price? they don't have normal prices at AV. _________________ There is happiness for those who accept their fate. There is glory for those who defy their fate

@ erwin: I just double checked. Mantle of Misfortune is an additional power. So I can have both I'll try to do the power listings when I find some time. And it is sad that I have a low AC. The spiked shield will solve everything. Oh and the price of Masterwork Armors are incorporated in the magic item cost. _________________ Roses are red, violets are blue. i_z is right, erwin - I think you're confusing the bloodline feat with the various Wrath feats from Dragon381. _________________ Nosfecatu Publishing |

I've checked as well, and i was wrong
@juaberman: i found this stat from Dicefreaks for guns, you might want to take a look at it. (and adpot it if you like)
Deicfreaks gun stats wrote: | Superior Ranged Weapons
Pistol, Prof +2, Damage 1d6, Range 20/40, Load minor, brutal 2, high crit
Rifle, Prof +2, Damage 1d10, Range 25/50, Load minor, brutal 2, high crit |
they'er a lot stronger, but they are superior weapons. _________________ There is happiness for those who accept their fate. There is glory for those who defy their fate

@erwin:guns in Ender are more mass-produced, yet still not that advanced in terms of functionality, but thanks on this info
@i_z: no masterwork armor. it's called that because the materials are find to find, and remember the setting you guys are in _________________ Let me tell you a story. But instead of "Once upon a time", let me start with the happy ending. |
