Ailean Lochlan Flannagan

Home World: Dwimlicht

Largely ignored by the Imperium, aside from a source of troops for the Guard, the population of this ice world has developed into feudal clans similar to that of medieval Scotland. Although generally peaceful, it is not uncommon for clans to war against each other, mostly for the precious few grazing lands for their grox herds. Every few generations representatives from the Administratum and the Departmento Munitorum come to Dwimlicht. The arrival of these “messengers of the Great God-Emperor” heralds the beginning of a weeks-long tournament among the clans. Hundreds of thousands of representatives from all the clans gather to show off there strength, skill, and prowess. The winning clan is declared the planet’s ruler until the next tournament. The strongest, bravest, and most skilled competitors are then taken and trained to become Dwimlicht’s newest Imperial Guard regiment.

Career: Guardsman

An iceworld categorized as a feral world, Dwimlicht is considered by the Administratum as a source of soldiers, nothing more.

Divination: “Dark Dreams Lie Upon the Heart” Begin play with 2 corruption points

Story:

As soon as he could walk and talk, Ailean has been trained as a warrior. During his 16th year he, along with all of his clansmen and women who has recently come of age, were led to their Rites of Bloodening. For eight days and eight nights, the blooded warriors of their clan led them towards a site chosen by their clan’s seers. There they found a small settlement, its entire population sacrificed by chaos cultist to their dark gods. Upon a signal from the warriors, the youths charge the heretics, slaughtering every last one of them. Their worth as warriors proven and their faith in the Emperor confirmed, the new men and women of Clan Flannagan were presented to their peers. However, Ailean still occasionally dreams of the carnage and dark visions he saw that night.

A few years later, representatives from the Administratum and the Departmento Munitorum arrived on Dwimlicht. The Grand Tournament was called and Ailean and hundreds of his kin travelled to the chosen competition site, hoping to win great honor for their clan.

Although his clan did not win, Ailean was chosen to serve in the “Emperor’s Honored Legion”. The chosen warriors of Dwimlicht was brought to nearby danger world for basic training, indoctrination, and later formed into the 468th Dwimlicht regiment. Soon after Commissar Takashi Harris was attached to 468th Dwimlicht and was soon after killed in action during the regiment’s first deployment against orks on the agriworld of Hilarion. Ailean was implicated in his death but as Commissar Harris was hacked to pieces and trampled, very little can be found on the way of evidence. Regardless, Ailean was still sent to the brig until his higher-ups decide what to do about him. It was then that he was recruited Inquisitor (insert name).

Knightingale and I have talked and I'll be taking the last spot. I do want to have specifics on character creation--I mean, I assume I need a witness for the rolls?

BJ edit. No RL names, please.

You need me to witness the rolls, specifically. I advise you to arrive early tomorrow so you can roll as you please.

@BJ: Hilariously appropriate, and interestingly enough, they actually do that :consored:. Smile) Just finished reading a chapter of Angels of Darkness where the a tribe of feral worlders did just that to prove their worth for recruitment to a Dark Angels Interrogator-Chaplain.

By the way, food plans, anybody? Or do we all just come along with some grub?

Pot luck sounds good. We can cook, or order out. Cooking is generally less expensive, so that's ok.

I'd suggest canned goods and simple stuff for now, for convenience. Maybe we can give next week's menu some more thought, quick post-game planning session?

@BJ: I based this on a Blood Angel recruitment rite practiced on some feral and feudal worlds, but now that you mention, it does remind me of Yu Yu Hakusho

Ubaydah bin Jalal
Career: Imperial Psyker
Imperial Divination: "Thought Begets Heresy, Heresy Begets Retaliation" (+3 Strength)

Homeworld: Falak (Feudal Imperial World)

Falak is a distant Imperial world known only for it's people, who are as belligerent as they are religious. The inhabitants of Falak practice a stricter, more localized version of the Cult of the God-Emperor, which emphasizes total submission to the God-Emperor's will combined with a strict code of conduct adhering to tribal practices. Very minor changes in religious practices vary from ethic group to ethnic group, but interpretations of the Emperor's teachings are uniform.*

*The planet once suffered a civil war due to disagreements on the interpretation of the Teachings of the God-Emperor. This lasted a good four hundred years and required the intervention of the Ordo Hereticus and the Imperial Guard, which involved the enforcement of a standardized interpretation along with ruthlessly weeding out the false prophets and their respective cults, which often resulted in the cleansing of entire cities and the elimination of many prominent local leaders.

Backstory:

(Too sleepy to expound on this. Will edit later. Let's just say he spent a good deal of his early life in a Madrasa, was picked up by a visiting Black Ship and spent the rest of his adulthood locked away in Terra. The only comfort during his imprisonment was a small manuscript of Imperial Saints, one of the few personal possessions he brought from his homeworld. Will detail what happened during his sanctioning another time.)

See, this was one of the first things that I did devote a lot of thinking to. It's just that sometimes, people don't really listen.

All players are required to bring food worth at least PhP 50. You can go beyond that if you feel like you want to splurge, but in my experience, this already leads to lots of munchies for the game.

@PMP: Don't sweat it. I did request people to keep the backgrounds brief, because the more you elaborate, the more I will tend to avoid reading it (as I have done it at least one background story).

Basically, it's the same principle as the food problem: Listen to your GM and you avoid unnecessary work/worries.

Inquisitor Khalamar - Ordo Xenos. Lost his lower body during a fight with an unidentified Xenos creature. Exacted revenge by breaking the Xenos's necks; all eleven of them.

Lady Thyratia Vaak - Imperial Governess of phi-class planet Exepxa. Last remaining member of the Vaak line. Hybrid Genestealer.

Commander Ulrezak - Head of Castle Vaak's security detail. As far as you can tell, also the chief-of-staff of the Exepxan military.

Numbers 1-5 - Lady Vaak's handmaidens. It seems that sex appeal is a prerequisite for serving as one. Number 2 is deceased.

Dmitri Guhl'ak (deceased) - Last remaining leader of the planet's Chaos cultists.

<insert rank here> Futamari - Your pilot. Tall and dark, and is very easy to amuse.

Martin Chase - Reporter for the EEN (Exepxan Exceptional News). Early thirties, Long, dirty blonde hair tied in a ponytail (possibly to hide a developing baldness).

Guardsman Ishmael
Homeworld: Dar
Divination: The Wise Man Learns from the Death of Others (+3 to intelligence)

Born in an imperial agri-world tasked to provide food for a planet long dead (at least until the bogged down bureaucracy finally tells them otherwise), Ishmael grew up in an environment where life was hard but food was plentiful.

This all changed when he was drafted to become a part of the 801st Darian and promptly shipped out to Werfukd, a world caught in the clutches of an Ork WAAGH! Miraculously, he survived past the average life expectancy of a guardsman (somewhere between 15 to 30 minutes after deployment), serving for three months until the fateful mission that lead to his recruitment as part of an inquisitor's staff.

Tasked to sabotage an Ork supply depot, they messed up horribly and Ishmael eventually found himself the lone survivor of his squad deep within enemy lines. They would find him almost half a year later, his clothes long replaced with Ork skins and skeletal armor. Of his regular uniform all that was left was the Imperial Infantryman's Uplifting Primer, which he would later confess was the only part of his uniform he did not eat to survive. Having survived alone in a Xenos infested world, of course, was what caught the attention of the Ordo Xenos and Inquisitor Khalamar.

Edit: It's College graduation on Thursday morning. Yes, I'll still be available for the game. I'm only mentioning this because I'll be bringing something for dinner to celebrate during the game. >_> I told my mom spaghetti (mixed with tomato garlic dip. It's delicious) but if you guys prefer something else do give me a heads up.

Inquisitorial Log, Acolyte "Murray the License." Planetside Documentation, Week 1, Day 1, Part 1 of 1

"Not really my cup of space tea, this report thing, but the tech-priest delegated this little bit of red tape to me after his bravura display of lasgunnery in the Demitri brawl. Oh, well, might as well get on with it before I saunter off to the lobby for more clandestine planning with the crew

"Anyway, a few days ago, Calamaro asked me and my crew to investigate the suspicious goings-on on a planet finally experiencing the warm glow of Holy Terra after 500 years of Hurricane Warptrina. Seems like they were behind in their coffer contribs, so we were tasked to investigate their less than stellar (Stellar. Get it? It's because we're in SPACE) financial fastidiousness. Of course, the obvious answer would've been the pulsating cloudcover of hellish whatzit confounding all attempts at communication, but I think the Inquisitor already knew that. You could almost see the twinkle in his eye. It might've been just his ocular receptors focusing and defocusing in the dim light of the space shop, but I'd like to think he was being wily.

"So, basically, we were to investigate the planet, correspond with the ruling power, request for the money and ask leading questions if there was anything heretical we should be privy to. After that, our options branch into two paths: a) if YES to heresy, we root it out, stomp it into the ground, offer our victory to the glory of the God-Emperor, and go to our respective home planets for some much needed RnR, easy peasy lemon squeezy, B) if NO to heresy, we still root it out, stomp it into the ground, reprimand the governor for his lies, consider if we should kill him, probably kill him, offer our victory to the glory of the God-Emperor, etc, etc.

"After warping there, We were ferried planetside by our intrepid Captain Black Guy. Wary of the monstrous grotesquerie that may very well meet us as we opened the swishy space doors, I valiantly strode outside (sidekicks flanking me left and right) to show the mooks who's who and what's what. We were greeted by people who looked disappointingly normal. The half a century of Warp activity has done little to mar their complexion (Aside from the occasional excessively spotty guy. Not a mutant, just a man down with the yellow pox.). Also, it was raining, which was abnormal 'cause the drops weren't lime green and didn't sting.

"Clearly, heresy was afoot.

"Another awesome Black Guy helped us get our bearings by directing us to the castle where we were greeted by a total boltershell of woman, whose name... I can't remember right now. Thelonius Vaak? Her last name's Vaak, though, I'm sure of that. Let me tell you, the girl looked majestic yet coquettish, almost playful in a regal way. She said something about her being the governor we were looking for and the rain being mechanically generated. Maybe. I was too busy trying not to look at her generous, and almost hill-like endowments trying to escape the confines of their satiny prison. They looked so sad and lonely, so I took it to myself to liberate them for a good cause.

"My crew and I were led inside the castle, where we asked the general overview of things. We focused the beam of our investigations at the warp storm dilemma and the long-overdue Imperial tithes. The standing issues were quickly resolved as the Vaak said that her associates were already counting the money. I'm not too sure about the competence and patience of their adepts, but I almost feel sorry for them bean counters. 500 years is a lot of paperwork, I'm guessing. With the surety of their loyalty more or less unquestioned--for now--we got down to discuss more pressing business. Turns out that there is a Chaos presence on this planet but the grunt of it is led by a certain Demitri So-and-so. Judging by the adorable pout passing over Vaak's face, he and the Cultist had some history. Was about to get jealous when she mentioned that Demitri killed her brother. That didn't appease my jealousy at all; I've met some street-walkers who're into that. It's all whatsit, cycle-logical.

"We were offered some RnR until dinner, so the lads thought we should split up and obtain all available info that we can regarding the juicy bits we uncovered. The nutter and the robot were escorted by nondescript guardsman #6 to the library where they engaged themselves in research. Exciting stuff, turning pages and reading words. Yup. Hairy Braveheart and the brownest assassin you'll ever see went to the reception and asked for info regarding the rash of cultist insurgency. The results were, admittedly, hilarious. I did something useful too, I guess. I was busy streching out the sexual tension wi--I mean, running a background check on the Governess. Let me say, for the record, "that Number 2 can attest to her benevolence and wise rule". Did you get that? Is it--should I do it again? Hello? Hello? Casper, the friendly machine ghosty? Yeah, I think it got it.

"Anyway, we found out substantial info on the Vaak line and their connection with the cultists. Imagine that? One Chaos sect, evading a whole planet's efforts on finding it for several decades. I would be impressed if they didn't, you know, collected skulls, sacrificed virgins, drank the Kool-Aid of malevolent intent, etc, etc. Brown and Braveheart also uncovered a BnE and homicide combo that cost the life of the previous concierge, which, incidentally contributed to the current one regularly pissing her bloomers everytime someone threatening sidles up the lobby. I'm not good with dates (Job's note: I really am not good with dates, so kindly correct me if there's an inconsistency), but I think that happened 3 days ago, 'round the same time the Warp storm went away to come again another day. Curiouser and curiouser.

"After much scheming about what we should do, we went to dinner to further squeeze the Governess' ti--story. Everything checked out, as far as we're concerned, but I still can't help but feel she's hiding something. Something round, globular and frequently comes in pairs with matching protuberant attachments. Must investigate further.

"Dinner went by without a hitch. I had the nutter perform some magic tricks for us, but judging by everyone shouting in unison, the crowd didn't care much for entertaining prestidigitation. So Braveheart played his pipebags to the chagrin of many; it was like watching a battlebarge crash into a wheelchair and kitten factory in slowmotion. It was glorious. While all this was happening, we generously offered our services as the Preliminary Anti-Chaos Investigative Squad for a small and necessary compensation. Thrones were out of the question, so food, basic lodging, armory support and some forms of leisure were good enough incentives. But, honestly, looking at my motley crew just shivering to see some Chaos ground into fine powder, they would've done it for less than a smile. I volunteered to head the negotiations while the techpriest and the two guardsmen dropped by the local watering hole to lubricate their engines. Probably literally, for the techpriest.

"When they got to the pub, and this is what I got from the techpriest, "The two fleshy ones engaged in bacchanalian excess while I continued to pierce the obfuscating radiator mist of Chaos deception with my superior sensory apparatuses." Seems like they found Demitri hanging around with his evil posse and when he resisted arrest and instigated the conflict, my crew didn't have any choice but to fight back. It got pretty bloody: arms shriveled into human-sized matchsticks, torsos exploded in half, orifices were probed by foreign projectiles, everyday bar stuff. Demitri tried some Chaos voodoo which failed epically in the light of his lameness. Emperor alive. So lame.

"From how Sev's story wrapped up, Demitri was apparently offed by Ulrezak, a fact that I found annoying, since he stole the techie's kill. I'm not a bloodthirsty ganger myself, but you don't do that to someone on a streak. It's just plain rude!

"Oh right, what else? The three also found out that there's a Chaos civil war happening right under Vaak's aquiline nose.

"Hello, human detritus, meet fan. Nice to meet you, fan, I am human detritus. Mind if I hit you? Not a problem, human detritus; hit away!

"While all this was going down, my very innocent desire to bum a shirt that isn't made out of lice-festooned Grox skin gradually snowballed. Negotiations with Vaak took a turn for the sexy when she pulled some archaic-planet-custom Squiggoth :consored: on me by branding me for marriage. Right? I know! I mean, I wouldn't mind being tied down to a girl who owns her own Emperor-damned planet, but I'm too young for this. I'm barely 46--I think. Am I 46? Crap, I've lost track, hold on.

"The thing is... the thing is that I'm not too sure what Vaak is really thinking of. I am aware of my own sexual appeal, don't get me wrong. I may have delusions of grandeur, but that's all they are: delusions. Now, what would a highly attractive young lady in a coveted position of power want with a short, pudgy dwarf of a man who introduces the aglets of his shoelaces to each other every morning while singing 'Getting To Know You'? Hmm, that's something to mull over a shot of their maggot moonshine.

"Dear Calamaro, it has been an eventful day of our Lord, the God-Emperor of Man. You can even sa--"

"Hmm, baby. Who are you talking to?"

"Oh, oh, no one. Number 2. Just reciting some poetry in the early Exceptia morning. Did you get a good sleep last night?"

"Hmmm, how could I? I wonder where else can you fit?"

"Well, why don't we try and find out? I am fully hydrated and I think there's still some grease by the side-table drawer."

"Hahaha, all in due time. What question, though, that thing on the shelf. Is that a camera?"

"Oh, that's for official documentation purposes. Don't worry, the green light means it's turned off."

After our brief skirmish with the chaos cultists, the government easily became suspect. It was apparent that they were hiding something. Knowing it our duty to ferret out heresy wherever they may be, we split up. With my fellow guardsman and I providing an "honor guard" for that fool Murray who had somehow wiggled his way into this planet's favor. Our mission was simple; we were to distract the general while our companions infiltrated his office in search for whatever blasphemy may be found.

During the conference however, one of the reporters found his tongue too loose. Mentioning that the governess had intended to marry the traitor Dmitri. Leaving Murray to his foolery (for street scum, he sure has the character flaws of nobs), Ailean and I broke off in an attempt to save this reporter and learn what we could from him. A scuffle ensued between the local guards but we were able to extract him. At the same time our other companions were successful as well retrieving nothing less than Dmitri's journal.

What we learned was enough to damn the government but for what heresy we found ourselves unsure. Given the choice it was perhaps safer to run to our inquisitor and leave the problem to him but we were perhaps too zealous in the prosecution of our duty...or too curious.

Whatever else, our decision brought us here towards the palace's secret passageways where we ran to Number 2 and Murray, showing that he at least has some guts despite his naive ways, killed her himself. With that loose end done, we had no choice but to confront the governess herself.

I've seen madness while fighting in the Emperor's name. I've faced down green skins when my regiment was shoved in front of WAAGH!! Skullkrakka. I've seen a good guardsman eating his own leg in a hunger driven hallucination. But none of those compare to the monstrosity before me.

Xenos. No worst. Xenos sacrilegiously mixed with humanity's seed if this monster masquerading as the governess is to be believed. The form. Those claws. I've heard stories of what these things are capable of. First the taint of chaos and now this.

We do not know if our message has reached Futamari. We could all probably die here but if a message could be sent out then our job would be done. Here be monsters and we will have this planet burnt to the ground even if it kills us--and standing here before this monster I can already feel that it will kill us.

All righty, congratulations to BJ for successfully GMing our first Dark Heresy adventure.

Where do we go from here? The original idea was a rotating GM system, and if we're going with that, then I'd like to volunteer to run the next adventure, approximately 2-3 sessions long. As per discussion we've agreed to sit out this thursday to rest? And then begin gaming next week?

Everyone good with that? And is the place and time still good with the group and the host?

Wait, I need a roll call. Who will be good to game, and good for 2-3 sessions?
Minimum 4 people besides the GM to run the game.

Some notes if it pushes through:
-1 month in-game downtime, so character's will earn their monthly keep.
-I propose a 100xp award per session that a GM runs, otherwise, as the position rotates, GM characters get left behind. If the rest of the group agrees to this, I'd also like it to apply to any character that our first GM, BJ makes (so he starts with bonus 300xp).

Who's interested and able to keep going under those terms?

Need a headcount by Monday so I can plan properly. Fire away!

I'm in. And I agree to the 100 xp/session for GM's bit. I'd suggest a bit more, actually, as an incentive for others to DM, but it's fair enough as it is, really.

@acid_blue: So you get the same xp for running a game? I'm not so sure about that.

@all: so far, only acid_blue and boy bakal are good to go. I've pm'd russianguyovic to check, and looking up bj. If both of them are good to go, then we'll have the minimum for a rounded group. Otherwise, we'll need new players. Anyone you'd like to invite?

Confirmed PMP/Knightingale cannot attend.

So it's up to new takers, now.

Also, thinking about it, next week's DH game is right before the Bohol flight. So it's probably off then. That means there should be no problems with juaberman taking over.

Agreed?
