It's been clarified that the OGM is indeed moved to the 29th, but BALASA proceeds on the 22nd. Apparently they've been seperated as events.

Well, that sucks. It used to be convenient... There's probably an increase in Balasa attendance this Saturday, and it must come from L5R players.

Actually, it was SM's decision to move the OGM/Balasa - apparently they had another event running at the Cyberzone on the 22.

However, since so many CCG players had already filed for vacation days to play in the tourneys on the 22nd, SM gave an alternate venue for the Balasa ONLY. I expect that space will be tight on Saturday, hence the decision to not run the OGM on that day.

For those going to the 22 Aug BALASA: the venue is at the Food Court NOT at the Cyberzone. Those who inevitably will get lost (I know I will), may contact me at 09183009388 or just ask your friendly neighborhood sikyu Wink

@Q: Are you prepared for a big group that might attend your prerelease?

Yes. The products I'm going to purchase can cover up to 36 players. However, WOTC is going to impose a limitation on the players in the prerelease. So, basically, first come first serve is the principle here. And that's why I tell people to preregister in the prerelease thread.

Does preregistering require money up front?

September OGM/Balasa announcement
Quote:
Greetings,

September will be a joint meet of the OGM and BALASA! and will be held on September 26, Saturday, at the Groundfloor, Cyberzone, SM Marikina from 10:am til 9:00pm. For those not familiar with how to get there, you can download a zipped JPG file of a map by going to: http://www.tabletopwars.com/gallery/displayimage.php?album=10&pos=3

The OGM is an informal gathering of tabletop games enthusiasts from various groups who try out new games and/or play favourites games, be it Boardgames, Miniature Wargames, RPGs, Card Games, or Board Wargames, with friends - new and old. While Balasa is similar to the OGM but catering to the CCG players and their communities.

Planned Game Sessions for the SEP. OGM are:

FORMULA V 09 Season
Using the Formula D game, this will be the start of a series of 10 game sessions held from Feb. until Nov. Points are scored every session and a Driver's / Team Champion is "crowned" at the final race (the winners get a prize). The game is open for 10 player and will start at around 6pm. Look for VJ on that day if you wish to participate. For a review of the game, go to http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/14/14102.phtml

Learn to play GO
By the Philippine Go Association. If you ever wanted to learn how to play this classic game, or happen to watch the anime Hikaru no Go and want to know more about the game, now is your chance - don't let the size of the board daunt you, they actually have smaller training boards, which are perfect for the newbies. For those who want to know more about the group, head to http://groups.google.com/group/philippine-go-association?lnk=srg.

Aside from the sessions / events mentioned above, the following games will be showing up on that day as well:

Bang!, (party card game for 4-7 players), http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/9/9754.phtml
Cookie Fu, (collectible dice game for 2 or more players), http://www.rpg.net/news+reviews/reviews/rev_7910.html
Classic Waterworks, (party card game for 2-4 players), http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/161737

Once Upon a Time, (part card game for 2-6 players), http://www.rpg.net/news+reviews/reviews/rev_1613.html

Res Publica, (party card game for 1-5 players), http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/9/9249.phtm
Risk Express, (dice game for 2-6 players), http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/28086
The Spoils, (CCG for 2 players), http://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/12/12690.phtml

Senator, (party card game for 3-5 players), http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/12296
The Great Brain Robbery, (boardgame for 3-7 players), http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/167062

Furthermore, additional games are also brought in by some of the participants, so one never knows what else would be available to play this month.

Planned Tournaments for the SEP. BALASA! are:

L5R Philippines League Tournament
"League of Champions Episode Two"

Registration start: 11:00 AM
Registration end: 1:30 PM
Start Time: 2:00 PM

Format: CE/Swiss - Path of the Destroyer legal

Registration Fee: 250 pesos (inclusive of 50 pesos entrance fee - see below - if you're bringing friends who're not playing they'll have to pay 50 pesos for themselves.) No pre-reg for this one.

Prize: Booster Draft

If the tournament reaches 22+ players, we will draft 11 packs then the top 4 will receive the following:

1st: 5 packs
2nd: 4 packs
3rd: 3 pack
4th: 2 pack

If it does not reach 22, the tournament will draft the appropriate packs and the remaining packs will go on sale.

Magic: the Gathering Zendikar Prerelease Event

Registration start: 10:00 AM
Registration end: 11:30 AM
Start Time: TBA

Format: Sealed Deck

Registration Fee: 1,000 pesos (not including the 50 pesos entrance fee - see below - if you're bringing friends who're not playing they'll have to pay 50 pesos for themselves.) Preregistration is recommended due to limited slots - contact 0918 300 9388 for preregistration and other details.

Other Details: Standard prerelease fare -- 6 booster packs for Sealed; Prerelease foil per person; 1 booster per win; ZEN T-shirts and boxes to top players.

We have the following house rules and expect every participant to adhere to them:

- since this will be held at a Mall, please refrain from bringing in a
lot of games. We suggest 1 to 3 games per participant, maybe 4 if the
games are all small.

- as much as possible, bring at least 1 gateway game, since having the
event at a Mall gives us the opportunity to get walk-ins hooked to our
hobby.

- there will be a baggage counter and game counter to ensure the safety of your possessions.

- all tables are considered "open tables" and is on a first-come, first-served basis.

- we ask that all participants please be mindful of your fellow players nearby by not being too loud when playing a game.

- only the new OGM IDs will be handed out to participants, anyone else
participating that hasn't gotten a new OGM ID will be handed a label
sticker to use as their ID. VJ will continue tracking attendance so
that people eligible for the new OGM ID will be awarded.

- do not put food or drinks on the same table as the games. A lot of
these games are not cheap, or they're already out of print, or both, so
please be considerate to the owner of the game.

- if you must eat while gaming, use a nearby empty table (if available)
to eat your food. If a spare table is unavailable, eat / drink in such
a way that crumbs / droplets will not fall on the game pieces.

- practice "clean as you go". Make sure that the tables are devoid of
wrappers / empty bottles / etc. when you vacate it, so that the next
group of players won't spend time cleaning up your mess. After all,
you don't want people to think you're a slob.

- there will be no Cantina, since you can find tons of food options in the Mall.

- every participant that leaves the event area will have his wrist
stamped, so that they can re-enter afterwards without having to pay.

- any participant caught disrupting the event will be asked to leave
the event. If the participant refuses, he will be forcibly removed
from the event.

Please note that all participants must pay an Entrance Fee of 50 Pesos when entering the joint OGM / Balasa event.

If you have any questions you can contact me at 0917 247 4067

Your current OGM Host/Coordinator,
Victor

Just received word that the event's canceled today thanks to the weather (Marikina being notorious for flooding and all). Any word on when/where this has been rescheduled to?

BALASA/OGM wasn't moved. In fact, I'm typing this from the eerily vacant SM Marikina. Flooding was hell, but I doubt they'll move this to next week.

I see. So it's just the L5R tourney that was attached to the Balasa that got canceled?

There's too many things going on for a do-over of OGM to occur next weekend. This is a literal act of god, not act of stupidity, so SM is not obligated to give them the venue again next week, and nobody has the energy to hold it again next weekend.

Oh well, at least we have the AEGIS meet-and-greet to look forward to.
